Unexpected Travel Hacking Day: Earn Up to 170,000 Extra Miles & Points from New Offers

Today was an unexpected travel hacking adventure.

While working on another project for most of the day, I received word of an update to the Barclays Premier Miles and More Mastercard. Normally that card offers a 30,000 point bonus, which is decent—but for a limited time, they’re upping the bonus to 20,000 points immediately upon signup and an additional 30,000 points after meeting a minimum spend. Nice!

I started writing an update to everyone on the owner’s list for Frequent Flyer Master.

Literally while I was writing this mailing, I received word that Chase was updating three of its offers—and they also had some serious news to share. For a limited time (they won’t say how long), they’ve increased the signup bonus on two of their best cards: the Ink Plus and the Ink Bold.

Both cards usually provide a bonus of 50,000 Ultimate Rewards points, which is great. You can use Ultimate Rewards points for 1:1 transfers to United, Hyatt, and a bunch of other partners.

Whenever I travel to my favorite city of Sydney, Australia, I always check into the Park Hyatt and pay with my Ultimate Rewards points. It’s a $900-a-night hotel that I stay at free.

Anyway, during this magical phase of gifts from the gods of card issuers, Chase is offering a 60,000 point bonus on each of the cards—and yes, you can get both of them (though not usually on the same day—it’s better to apply for one, get approved, then apply for the other a day later).

If you have family members interested in sharing the trip or just earning their own points, of course they can get the bonuses too.

It’s a great offer and one I’d take advantage of myself, if I didn’t already have both products. I’m definitely signing up for the Lufthansa card, though. 52,500 points is enough for a one-way Business Class award from anywhere in North America to most places in Europe. The annual fee of $79 is a small price to pay for that.

Note that these offers provide referral credit to us. I only recommend cards I use myself (I have each of these), and if you like the concept but prefer to apply direct, feel free to do that.
