Announcing: A Year of Mental Health 💚

Happy New Year! Big announcement time:

For all of 2024, I’ll be writing three times a week on a new newsletter hosted by Substack. You can subscribe now in both free and paid versions.

Many more details are below, for those who care. But in short: I would love for you to be part of this experience. Everyone is welcome.

➡️ A Year of Mental Health with Chris Guillebeau

The new newsletter will focus on ADHD and purposeful productivity, along with entrepreneurship. I’ll be writing in real-time and sharing some personal stories I’ve never told before.

How will this be helpful to you? And what if you don’t have ADHD? Read on!

Why This Topic?

In short, I wanted to do something new, and I love year-long projects. (Sometimes they turn into 7+ years, like my podcast…).

As for this topic, well, mental health is relevant to many of us right now! The pandemic caused an enduring shift in much of modern society.

I wrote about the economic side of this in my last book, Gonzo Capitalism. But the shifts we’ve been through have affected a lot more than just money—we’re also thinking differently about wellness.

So that’s why I chose A Year of Mental Health. We could all use more wellness, right?

I’m going to write in a very nonjudgmental way, while still proposing clear solutions to problems. It will be independent, organic, and ad-free.

Who Is It For?

It’s for anyone who wants to live and work differently!

You don’t have to have ADHD or identify as neurodivergent to appreciate it.

The fact is that almost everyone struggles with mental health in some ways—AND almost everyone is getting bad productivity advice. I want to provide something better. 🙂

Cool, So What Happens to the Existing Blog?

It’s still here! I’ll still be sending occasional newsletters to this existing list, at least for people who don’t migrate over. But for 2024, my focus will be on the new one.

I’ll do my best to make things as seamless as possible, given the limitations of technology and my lack of an IT dept. 🙂

A lot of my friends are on Substack—Emily, Jen, Jenny, Melissa, Brian, Justine, Jodi (among others)—and there’s a real sense of community there.

Also, I love how simple Substack is for readers. In other words, I hope it will be easier for you.

Please let me know if I’ll see you over there—I really would love to!

How Subscriptions Work

If you’re already subscribed to my blog by email, we should be able to auto-magically add you to the new platform, with no action required on your part. (We’ll find out soon if this actually works.)

For everyone else: you can subscribe over here.

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I’ll publish a new post at 7am Pacific time.

You can count on it! Read along at the site or in your inbox if you’re signed up.

I miss old-school blogging (😢), so most posts will have comments enabled. Yay! Come join the conversation, or just lurk if you want—that’s cool, too.

Note: there’s not a lot of new content on the site yet, since this is week 1. Stay tuned; I promise more is coming soon.

Is It Still Free?

Yes—mostly. I’m going to make almost everything free.

There will be some special things for paid subscribers, but I want the project to be as accessible as possible for everyone.

Basically, if you can pay $6/month to support it—that’s great and will allow it to be free for others. But it’s really up to you. Good vibes only, no pressure. 😎

Not into it? Too many emails?

Don’t want to receive an email with every post? I totally understand. You can easily unsubscribe anytime.

Of course, whenever you unsub, it will immediately start to rain and the traffic will be worse on your commute.

Just kidding. It’s cool.

Finally, a Personal Note

I’ve been writing The Art of Non-Conformity for almost 15 years now! And some of you have been around for much or even all of that time. 🙏 🙏 🙏

I really do make these things for you. Let’s have some fun and do something new this year.

I hope to see you on the other side.

To your 2024,

Chris

P.S. In case you missed it: yes, there’s a paid option, but most of the content will continue to be free. I appreciate those who are able to support the project, but please don’t feel any pressure at all to do so. ❤️
