Greetings from Lexington Avenue on the small island of Manhattan. Since I haven’t slept much in the past two and a half days, I’m not sure why I got a hotel room—but I’m grateful for the coffee maker and connection to the outside world.
Today, my first book is available for purchase in bookstores everywhere. Get it on Amazon, at Barnes & Noble, Borders, Chapters, or support your local bookstore.
The price is deliberately low, and I’m giving 100% of my proceeds to our charity project in Ethiopia for every reader I meet this fall. (I’ll be carrying a notebook for the next 97 days so I can keep up with everyone.)
The central message of the book is:
“You don’t have to live your life the way other people expect you to. You can do good things for yourself and make the world a better place at the same time. Here’s how to do it.”
It’s AONC in a souvenir format, designed to be highly personal and highly practical. I also have a minor book tour that begins… tonight.
Unconventional Book Tour Begins
I came to New York to launch the book and begin the Unconventional Book Tour — a collectively-organized, epic adventure to meet readers in all 50 states and 10 provinces. The first event kicks off right here in Manhattan and ventures out from there.
NYC Launch
Tuesday, September 7th at 7pm
Location: Borders Columbus Circle, Time Warner Building
Central Park West
And here’s the schedule for the rest of this week:
- September 8: Mendham, NJ (Mendham Books, 7pm)
- September 9: Philadelphia, PA (Aweber HQ, 7pm)
- September 10: Wilmington, DE (Starbucks, 2pm)
- September 11: New Haven, Connecticut (Adventures in Wellbeing HQ, 7pm)
- September 12: Providence, RI (Books on the Square, 2pm)
- September 13: Boston, MA (Harvard Coop, 7pm)
- September 14: Portland, ME (Longfellow’s Books, 7pm)
- September 15: Manchester, NH (Barnes & Noble, 7pm)
- September 16: Burlington, Vermont (U. of Vermont, time TBD)
And then 56 more cities over the next few months as I make my way to every state in the union… and then every province up further north. Sign up here and come out—I’d love to see you on the road.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
One of the main reasons why I started AONC was to write a book. It only took two and a half years (publishing is indeed a sloooow industry), but here we are.
A few of the best people in the world are helping me out today, and I’m very grateful for their support. Our “Small Army” reader campaign is also out in full force, with 99 additional reviews and commentary going up around the internets throughout the next 60 days.
Well, that’s it for now… but it’s kind of a big thing. See you again soon, and thanks so much for your partnership. Here’s to the next two-and-a-half years!

Congrats on your incredibly uplifting book & thank you for allowing me the privilege of being one of the 1st 99 to read it! Can’t wait to meet you in Houston, although I second the motion to add a stop in Austin – we have plenty of local bookstores & unconventional people!

Emperor in training and long time supporter. Just went to my Border’s bookstore today in Tulsa Oklahoma and bought it. Will read on a business flight tomorrow. Smiled huge when I saw it in print and on the shelf. Proud of you and working hard to out do you
Well done (not that you need my affirmation). Have shared your message with many – too many highly educated “factory workers” out there waiting for permission. Very smart but hesitant.
Hoping there is some content that is unique to the book but if not, pleased to support AONC.
Best regards,
Chris

I am definitely interested in an digital version of this book. A text version (PDF, epub, etc.), or even better, an audiobook would be great!
I’d love to support your efforts by buying your book, but I much prefer digital versions of books as opposed dead-tree versions. Please be sure to let us know when such versions become available.

And thanks of getting me started.

Hey Chris, Congrats on a job well done. I know the feeling. My first book hit the shelves in 2006. It was simply bliss! Well, am on another book project. Hoping to be done sometime next year. I would love to have your comments on it.
When will you hit the shores of Nigeria? We’re are waiting

Blast Day 2 September 8th is in Mendhem New Jersey which is just a few towns away from where I grew up. But I’m still in China! I miss it by just 1 month!
Maybe I’ll find myself in the same state as you further down the book tour though.
Good luck! Have a blast in NYC! And if you can fit it into your busy schedule, try to go get some pizza in Little Italy at Lambardi’s. It will change your life

I don’t typically comment on your blog but I had to today. On a trip to visit my in-laws I discovered your book had finally been released. I promptly headed down to Borders on the morning of its release.
After some searching and help from the staff I finally located the one copy that had gotten and grabbed it, I considered myself lucky to actually have gotten the only copy they had!
I’ve read your blog for about a year and a half and was thrilled to actually have something you had written in my hands. I’m just about done with the book and it is awesome.
You inspired me to leave my banking job and begin exploring opportunities that were more interesting last year. This book is a great reminder of everything that inspired me about your blog in the first place.
Thanks Chris

I also found the book at Borders but it was in the psychology– abnormal behaviors section; not quite where I thought it should be. I’m looking forward to reading it.
