*World Domination, July 2013 Edition* As mentioned on Monday, today's the day—we've just opened up the first public round of registration for #WDS2013. While they last, tickets will be available at the link --> #WDS2013 RegistrationRead More
We've begun secret meetings at World Domination HQ (also known as my house). Field trips have been made to various potential locations (the best field trips always end with Happy Hour). Quote requests have gone out for skywriters and a mechanical bull (long story). We're still in early days, but the time has come: our team has slowly been gathering to plan a small event for next summer.Read More
Have you ever withdrawn $100,000 in cash from the bank? Me neither ... until last week. This post includes a video from last weekend's World Domination Summit, and a brief explanation on why our team invested $100 in each WDS attendee.
A number of people have asked me to share more about the surprise we unveiled at the end of WDS 2012. As mentioned on Thursday, you can read the experiences of many other people who were at WDS all over the internet. (This list will be updated soon, since there are now more than 150 posts.)Read More
For the past five days, I've been immersed in a weekend adventure with 1,000 of our closest friends from more than 20 countries. They'll be able to tell the story better than I can, so at some point soon I'll do a roundup of their posts. (Attendees: link your posts to this one or tag them with #WDS.) For now, here are a few photos that might give the rest of you an idea of what our weekend was like ...Read More
*World Domination Summit: Final Ticket Sales* Earlier this morning we opened the final wave of ticket sales for WDS 2012. We sold out all 400 remaining tickets immediately (well, in 9 minutes), but due to various transaction errors, about 80 tickets were put back in the queue.
As mentioned on Monday, today's the day—early this morning, we opened up #WDS2012 registration for 400 people. All tickets were taken in the first 13 minutes. Some of the transactions went into pending mode and it took a bit longer for the dust to settle, but we were completely sold out within the hour.Read More
After I wrote that the first WDS operated at a net loss—financially speaking, not in terms of anything that matters—I was immediately pitched by a number of event planners, venues, and various professional meeting people, all offering me free advice about how we should do things around here. Whoa! Thanks for all the ... unsolicited ... input.Read More
One year ago, I began planning last weekend with a small group of trusted friends. As the time drew closer, we transitioned from a planning team to an Action Team. Then, as the weekend really drew closer, we expanded to a much larger Action Team. When the big day finally arrived, more than 40 people worked closely together to provide a gathering space for the 500 awesome people who came to town, more than half of whom were visiting Portland for their first time. Everyone involved was a volunteer—no speakers were paid, and attendees themselves contributed much of the weekend as we went along.Read More
Over the past weekend, I've been with 500+ people who came to Portland for the inaugural World Domination Summit. I'll be sharing a detailed wrap-up on Thursday, but for now, here are a few initial photos to illustrate the occasion. Later in the day you'll be able to see hundreds more over here. Video will be forthcoming at some point as well. But first, world domination does sometimes require a nap ...Read More
First up, Happy Easter to all! I hope you've had a good weekend with people you love. This is a short weekend update before the regular programming of the week. In 41 days, awesome people from all over the world will arrive in Portland for our inaugural World Domination Summit. We've been working every day on the many logistical issues to ensure we exceed everyone's high expectations for the weekend.Read More
Last week I went down to the Portland Art Museum again, and this time I took along the World Domination Action Team with me.
I normally do most of my project planning on my own, but for a project of this scale, I knew I needed to get some help—so this project is co-led with J.D., Tsilli, Robert, Tammy, Sean, Tyler, and Jolie. (I'll introduce them more later.)
You may recall that we're hosting a global gathering next June in Portland. Eight months away, we're well over halfway sold out, with 240 people registered from 15 countries. It's like the United Nations, but right here in Portland and so much more fun.Read More
Hi from St. Louis, Missouri, where I'm back on the road for a big swing through the Midwest and Great Lakes region. Between the World Domination Summit launch and getting back on the tour, it's been a big week over here.
If you're new to AONC, regular articles are posted on Mondays and Thursdays. I often use Sundays for a weekend update about my business, UnconventionalGuides.com. For the rest of 2010 I'm not doing much business work, so I'll use this space more often for updates from the book tour.Read More
Greetings, friends and readers. As mentioned recently, I have a modest proposal: next summer, let's take over Portland, Oregon with a small army of remarkable people. With that in mind, the World Domination Summit is now available for (very limited) registration. You can now learn more or sign up to brave the Oregon trail as one of the Pioneer attendees.
For more info, head over to the brand-new World Domination Summit site ...Read More
Jolie and I went down to the Portland Art Museum for a meeting with the Events Planner last week. We looked around at rooms that seated 350+ people. We talked about projectors and coat rooms and WiFi and catering—and everything else you could think of related to holding a major event. “Look,” I said as we walked past a wide corridor. “That looks like a nice place for the bloggers' lounge.” The corridor in question also contained a large statue of a naked man, but hey, it's an art museum.Read More
