As I mentioned a couple days ago, Chase is currently running a huge offer for 70,000 points on its popular Ink Plus card. This offer is fantastic. it’s definitely worth a look for most readers in the U.S. who are interested in nearly-free travel.

Another card issuer, Barclays, has also also announced an increased bonus this week. Its Premier Miles & More World Mastercard now offers up to 50,000 Lufthansa miles instead of the usual 25,000. If you get the card, you’ll earn 20,000 miles after your first purchase (and payment of the $79 annual fee), and then an additional 30,000 miles after spending $5,000 in the first 90 days.

In addition to the improved signup bonus, the card also offers the following benefits:

  • Earn 2 award miles per $1 on ticket purchases directly from Miles & More integrated airline partners and 1 mile per $1 on all other purchases
  • Cardholders receive a companion ticket after first purchase and payment of the annual fee and annually thereafter
  • There are no foreign transaction fees

This is a strong offer and one that I’ve previously taken advantage of. Note that I don’t use the Miles & More card every day—I pretty much just got it for the signup bonus, and then the card went into my desk drawer back at home. The Ink Plus card, however, I carry with me wherever I go and do use every day.

Different cards are good for different reasons. The Lufthansa Miles & More program is especially good for redemption on Lufthansa itself (for flights to and from Europe) as well as Swiss Airlines and other Star Alliance carriers.

(And remember, the other offer—for 70,000 points—is still available as well.)
