End-of-Year Giveaway (Plus! New books from Seth and Dan)

Reading By the Fire

Greetings from the Pacific Ocean!

Happy New Year’s to everyone in advance. I’m currently flying over the water and will miss New Year’s Eve (all of it) due to crossing the international date line today.

Don’t feel bad for me, though—I’m en route to my penultimate country. If all goes well, tomorrow I’ll be on Tuvalu and only one country away from … all of them. (Also: I like the word penultimate. I think it means “almost there.”)

***

Today I want to share a few things with those of you who care:

1. I’m en route to Tuvalu! (OK, we’ve covered that.)

2. There are some great new books you should read, especially from Seth Godin and Dan Pink

3. I’m giving away a bunch of stuff. Just comment to win and some of you will get something nice

We’ll get to the books in a moment. First, last week we had a holiday party for readers and friends in Portland. Some folks even came down from Washington and British Columbia. We had a lot of drinks, I gave away amenity kits and Marriott gift cards, and went home around midnight feeling very fortunate.

Precisely, I feel very fortunate to have stumbled on this strange career / life / everything. It’s insanely ridiculous and incredibly fun. I’m not sure where I’m headed in life as my “go everywhere” quest draws to a close, but thanks to you, I have no doubt that 2013 will be better than ever.

Seth’s New Book(s): How High Can You Fly?

This brings me to role models, especially those who have modeled consistency and excellent to me. Some of us launch one book every other year and feel proud of ourselves, but Seth Godin goes out and launches three books in a week. Yeah, I know: overacheiver.

Sometimes I read Seth’s daily blog just for the sake of being inspired to work. You just know he is going to produce thoughtful and inspiring posts on a regular basis.

His new book, The Icarus Deception, is the one we all expect to shift the conversation about life, work, and art. I always buy multiple copies of any book I endorse, and I’ve placed my pre-order for several of these already.

Oh, and the behemoth! Seth has offered me a free copy of his latest “six years of blog posts” collection, a monster-sized compilation that isn’t sold in stores. It will probably cost $100 just to ship it, but we’re putting it on the Godin corporate AmEx.

To win the behemoth, simply ask for it in the comments.

Check out the trailer for The Icarus Deception below, and order it from Amazon or your favorite local bookstore.

Also! A New Book from Dan Pink

Not to be undone, someone else I respect is also launching a new book. Dan Pink and I haven’t actually met yet, but I’ve admired his work from afar. He was kind to review and endorse The $100 Startup during a busy time in his life.

An animated version of one of his talks has been viewed ten million times, and upon cracking up the review copy of the new book, To Sell Is Human, I see that he’s sold more than a million copies of his previous bestseller, Drive. That’s… not bad.

You can read the introduction here, or check out the trailer here. Order it from Amazon or your favorite local bookstore.

***

Seth and Dan have modeled generosity and quality work for me. If you enjoy AONC, you’d probably like their books. I hope you’ll check them out, even if you don’t win one of the copies I’ll be sending.

End of Year Offer for Anything

If you’d like to win one of the books pictured above, post a comment and we’ll draw a number of winners (including multiple winners for The Icarus Deception and To Sell Is Human).

While we’re at it, if I can do anything else for you this week, post a comment as well.

I don’t expect much in the way of holiday parties on Tuvalu, and I’ve got three days there. If there’s something I can do for you during that time, let me know. If you want something I make and can’t afford it, say the word. I doubt my opinion about your business or travel plan will be hugely helpful, but if you think it might be, let me know.

As mentioned, I feel very grateful to be able to live this crazy life with you, so whatever I can do to help, I will. You can also send an email if your request is private.

Wrap-Up

In short, I hope your year is winding down well.

Comment to win the behemoth collection (a gift from Seth).

Comment to win one of the many free books from me (I’ll pay shipping anywhere in the world).

Comment if you want something else from me. If I can do it in the next few days while I’m hanging out on a faraway island, I will.

Deadline for all these things: January 3, 2013.

Thanks again. Happy 2013!

UPDATE: The giveaway and “offer to do anything” have now closed. Thanks for your participation! We’ll contact winners by email and award as many things as we can. Sadly, we don’t have as many books as we have entries, but you are all appreciated nonetheless. 🙂

I’d very much enjoy winning. Thank you.

  • Todd says:

Nice post. I’m keenly awaiting a read of The Icarus Deception soon after I finish the absolutely incredible wisdom recorded in Seth’s Startup School Podcast: https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/seth-godins-startup-school/id566985370

Some facts about Tuvalu (for the prize!):
    – Tuvalu is 0.1 times the size of Washington, DC
    – There are a total of 8km of roadways
    – The median age is 24.1 years.

    Enjoy!

  • Crystal says:

I am always down for winning snazzy books! (And cats, if you change your mind on that!)

  • Robynn says:

Spending the last few minutes of 2012 getting motivation for my 2013 goals- at the top of which is moving to Central America and starting my own biz

The $100 Startup is my Bible right now.

    Thanks

  • Kushal says:

I am an avid follower of your blog, the 100$ startup is one of my favourite books, I keep it with me when I travel, I hope that I get a new book equally good as the 100$ startup, so that I could increase my knowledge, values, skills and ideas.

Thank you and have a great year ahead !

  • Renee G says:

would love to read The Icarus Deception.

Tuvalu (.tv) is a country I admire. They realize that they may cease to exist as the waters rise, so enjoy your visit while you can.

Wouls absolutely love to get my hands on those books! It’ll be a great way to start the year!

  • Max says:

Wow – awesome giveaway, and also very cool that you’re on your penultimate country! Anything to do with islands in that general region always reminds me of Terry Pratchett’s novel NATION (if you haven’t already read it, I recommend it).

I’d love a book, too – they all sound great, but the Seth Godin one really stands out for me. I read his blog all the time and own Tribe but no others – yet!

  • Emily says:

I’d love to receive any one of those books. I’m already a big fan of Seth Godin and I’m going to hear him speak tomorrow in NYC — an inspiring way to start the new year.

  • Christin Berger says:

I would love to win any books, including the behemoth collection! I love reading all that Seth Godin posts. I have the Kindle edition of the $100 Startup and I am working my way through it right now. I have been putting some of the principles into place now though. I have written and published two children’s picture books and I will be spending the rest of this week and weekend planning my approach to 2013. Nothing short of World Domination will do. 🙂

  • Eric Thörn says:

Hey Chris, it would be awesome to win a book, so here is me asking to win one!

  • Kate says:

Happy new year – congrats on Tuvalu! Please enter me in the drawing.

  • Christy says:

Happy New Year! Thanks for sharing your inspirational non-Conformity life. I ‘ved lived my life doing what I was told I couldn’t do (I am 60% deaf living in a hearing world )

  • Grant says:

I’d love a copy of “The Icarus Deception” by Mr. Godin. He’s an incredible author.

  • Laura says:

Hi Chris, firstly I just googled Tuvalu and it looks nice! The first place I ever travelled to was an island called Aitutaki of the Cook Islands and it looks quite similar with the lagoons.
I would love to win any of those books particularly Seth’s Behemoth or Dan Pink’s new one. I am going to the Incarus Deception event in London near the end of Jan and I get a copy of that so don’t enter me for that one. Enjoy the island 🙂

  • Marie says:

I am currently reading The $100 Startup. You are really inspiring me. To be honest it is taking me twice as long as normal to read your book because I keep stopping to make notes, highlight passages, and think about how I can use the information you’ve written about in my life. Thank you. I would love to receive and read anything you recommend.

  • Mary says:

My curiosity is piqued; I want to read the Icarus Deception and Wisdom Meets Passion.(That second title sounds like words from the the mouth of my life coach, who also happens to be my pastor). The feel, smell and sound of success is all over everything you do, and I want in. Send as many as your charity will allow; I’m wide open!

  • Brian says:

    Very interested in reading these.

  • Lynn says:

I’d love to win any of the books. Happy travels!

  • Tim says:

Sketchnote Handbook would be a sweet snag, but any of the above sounds equally nice too! Thanks!

  • Amy says:

I would like to thank you for correcting my internal dictionary on the word penultimate! I don’t recall ever having to use it, but being an avid reader and writer it was in my lexicon, but under the wrong definition, probably gleaned from the context where I read it. I thought it was like the summit or the best thing, now I know it’s the second best or second to last. I know I’m a word geek :). Anyway, I’m not usually a big commenter, but new year and all I thought I’d drop a note.

I’ve read both your books and they’ve been of tremendous help to me. I’ve also read both Dan Pink’s Drive and let’s just say a few of Seth Godin’s, I especially I liked Poke the Box, it’s a short one, but most of the time you don’t have to write a lot to say a lot. A point I’ve clearly missed in the comment! I’ll leave you to Tuvalu, I hope you’re having an interesting new year!

  • Gari Brindle says:

I’d love to win one of the books! What a great way to start the New Year!

    Thanks!
    G.

  • Cecilia says:

Happy New Year Chris! Would love a book, but most of all wanted to say THANK YOU for being such a source of inspiration and motivation! I’m spending today finishing up my strategy for 2013, thanks to your annual review process.

    Enjoy the penultimate Tuvalu!!

  • Michele says:

Would love some motivational reading in the new year!

  • Steve says:

Happy New Year everyone! I just returned from the Philippines teaching English & would love a new read (The Incarus Deception) I enjoy reading your blogs & thank you for the opportunity to win a free book. Hope you get a chance to visit the Philippines. I taught in Olongapo City near Subic Bay in Zambales Province 4 hours north of Manila. Enjoy Tuvalu.

  • Kim says:

Thank you for being such an inspiration! I love reading your stuff. I also love reading Seth and Dan. Dan’s book “Free Agent Nation” was a huge inspiration right when I started my business 12 years ago. I would love to win a book – thanks! And enjoy Tuvalu while you’re there! Happy new year!

  • Brad says:

Great post, Chris! I’m fairly certain we are all a bit envious of the career you’ve created for yourself, and wish you the best as it continues 🙂

Also, this giveaway sounds great. It definitely seems there are some great reads in the collection, especially from Godin, naturally.

    Cheers, and happy new year!

    -Brad

  • Jen says:

I love reading and several of the books you’ve listed – the Sketchnote Handbook, The World’s Strongest Librarian, To Sell is Human, The Icarus Deception – I’ve had my eye on. Also, I’m Fine Thanks sounds fantastic! I would love to win one but if not, they’re on my 2013 reading list. Have fun in Tuvalu! (With a capital city called Funafuti how could you not, right? 🙂 )

  • Jamie says:

Enjoy your penultimate voyage at the leading edge of the new year! I’d love to read anything by Pink or Godin, but am especially excited about the Icarus Deception.

Have a fantastic 2013 and see you next time you’re in Toronto!

Have a wonderful time in Tuvalu! Happy new year!!!

  • Taylor M says:

Happy New Year, Chris! I’d love any of the books you’re offering but, win or not, I’ll probably get most of these anyways. Congratulations on almost finishing your major travel goal!

  • Noa says:

Thought your $100 Startup and Pink’s Free Agent Nation made a great pairing. And a dose of Seth Godin goes well with anything, so I’d love to read either of the newest books. Safe travels!

  • Renee Olmsted says:

I love your blog. It’s one I read consistently. Thank you for sharing your world and keeping me inspired. Would love to be picked for whatever you feel guided to give. Regardless, I look forward to the next posting.

Here’s to an Divine 2013 with many new adventures and experiences! Safe travels, Mr.Chris.

  • Fran Keogh says:

My brain is wrapped in New Year fog – not from overindulging on the Eve, but from serious lack of sleep due to Other people’s overindulging! It’s all good though, and I want to thank you for your extraordinary way of living. I live vicariously through you and my oldest daughter. I’ve had my share of adventures and plan to continue… but at the tail end of child raising and land locked in Cincinnati, Ohio, my “adventures” tend to be more imagination based. I’m commenting because I enjoy your blog, your books (I’ve sent multiple copies of both to various family members), became a travel hacker this year and have already accrued 110k points in a month, and appreciate your sharing. If you choose to award me something, I would simply enjoy whatever shows up! Like life…

  • Penny Wilcox says:

I’d love to win a book. I’ve been following you for a little over a year now and appreciate all I have gleaned from you. I just began my own website to grow on last night. Congrats on your penultimate achievement!

  • Denise says:

Would love to participate in the Give Away – thanks! Thanks also for the video interviews in your Empire Building Kit. They are well done. (The daily emails are helpful, too.) Wish you all the best for the new year!

  • Crystal says:

Possibility of a new book? I’m in! Also, I love following along on your adventure. And looking out at the 2+ feet of frozen snow that covers my yard makes your present location sound really good…

    Best to you in 2013!

  • Michelle L Britt says:

Thank you for the upbeat post. cheers to 2013!!

    🙂 🙂

  • Cassie Randall says:

This is my comment for the books! 🙂

  • Bill says:

I have become a huge fan of Seth Godin, Daniel Pink and Chris Guillebeau this past year. 2013 is the year I start putting some of these ideas into practice!

  • Ben Richey says:

Penultimate was one of my high school English teacher’s favorite words. She had a whole group of them that she used on a regular basis – loquatious, onomatopoeia, quintessential – that made English more interesting.

  • Sam says:

Always up for some new reading material!
Especially dealing with start ups and non-profits

  • Maxine says:

Would love to win one of Seths new book!! I am very new to the blogosphere and just working to set up my first blog – so would be delighted to win the book. It looks soo inspiring on the trailer.

Happy new year from Germany and hope you keep up writing more books – really enjoyed the 100$ startup

  • Amy says:

Wow! Congratulations on your penultimate country. That’s amazing and I wish you luck getting to the ultimate.

I’d also be honored to win to a book. Specifically based on the descriptions and links to the books, “The Icarus Deception” looks like an amazing read with where I am in life, but I’d be happy to have any. Thank you so much and thank you for keeping this blog.

    Happy New Year!

  • Emily says:

I’m always looking to read a new inspiring book. I have yet to get my paws on the $100 Startup… that should really be a New Years resolution. A huge congratulations to you Chris, for all you’ve accomplished this year, and for seeing the world. Talk about inspiring!!

  • Thu says:

I have to admit that I’m commenting for the books. But great job as always, Chris. Am thoroughly reading your annual review and writing mine.

  • Melissa says:

I would love to win any of the books you’ve listed – this year is going to be a wonderful one for me (I have big plans) and any input from wonderful, inspiring people like Seth and you is a really great way for me to stay motivated.

Hope you enjoy Tuvalu (I spelt that as Tubalu…what a country that would be! Picturing people with tubas all stomping around…) and happy new years, Chris!

  • Josh Eaton says:

I would love to get the behemoth collection. I’ve probably read each and every one of those posts over the past six years. Good luck getting to Tuvalu!

  • David says:

Safe travels! Long time reader here, I’d love any books you have to send! I’m actually writing my first nonfiction book proposal according to your Unconventional Guide with David Fugate…I’d be honored if you’d review the proposal before I begin looking for agents, and would be thankful for any assistance or advice you could provide on the subject of getting published. Happy New Year from the Space Coast of Florida!

  • Casper Kelly says:

Hi Chris! I’ve just recently discovered your site and love it. I have a request to see one of your annual review spreadsheets that is filled out – just to get a sense of how you do it. (With the private stuff deleted, of course.) You could even give us an old one. I’m just curious because sometimes I feel I’m not doing the spreadsheet as intended. Thanks! Wilbur

  • Gilda says:

    Hello Chris,

Happy New Year! I would love to be considered in your awesome giveaway for Seth Godin’s Behemoth Collection. Your work has been an inspiration and I am happy to say that later on this day I am launching a blog that I have always wanted to do but to “busy, fearful, lazy” to start! The road in qualifying for the Boston Marathon starts today! 🙂 Thanks! Gilda

  • michael says:

I would love any of the give away items!

  • Shivani says:

I’m commenting for the books! 🙂

  • Bill Denyer says:

Chris: You continue to inspire me, especially as I begin the “last quarter” of my life. You’ve helped me realize that it’s never too late to do my art (in Seth’s terms) and wishing you the best in ’13!

I would love to add to my incredible library which presently includes your gifts in a place of honor.

    Regards,

    Bill (Just Plain Bill)

  • Alex says:

I’m picking Nation up from the library this week! I’m looking forward to reading it.

I don’t usually comment, but you made me. Please send me the behemoth Chris, and Happy New Year. 🙂

  • Mark says:

Well I love Seth’s musings, I love books and I love this blog! As a relative newcomer to the AONC, I have really enjoyed the $100 Start Up.

I love books – the number of books you want is always N + 1, where N = number of books you already have …

However, I would really like to win Seth’s behemoth collection of posts – mainly bacause I like the sound of the word “behemoth”!

    Happy New Year!

  • Charlotte Rains Dixon says:

No better way to start 2013 than by winning a book! I’d love it.

  • Sharon says:

    thanks

  • Justin Harmon says:

    Hey man,

I’m looking forward to reading the Icarus Deception for sure. Gook luck on your journey. One more to go huh? Nice! I bet it feels real good to be so close to a huge accomplishment like that. Congratulations.

Oh, and it would be cool to win the Empire Building Kit. The Hemingway would be cool too, though.

    Cheers,
    Justin

  • Lisa A. says:

The TBR pile by my bed is actually getting rather sparse, so I would love to win one of these!

  • Jason says:

As if reading the blog for free wasn’t enough…I’d love a complimentary book!

  • STEPHEN says:

I’m a book addict. I would love a copy of The Icarus Deception! I’m also looking forward to hopefully meeting you at the end of this month in Dallas at the book signing! 🙂

  • Justin says:

    Oops. Meant good luck obviously.

    Good luck in 2013!

  • Sharkman says:

Congrats on Tuvulu! Pls let us know how it is as we are looking at going there in the next year – part of SCUBA diving expeditions to the most remote places on the planet. Seth is one of my true heros and I would greatly appreciate anything from him. (Rereading Purple Cow right now). Congrats again on Tuvulu!

  • Alex says:

Apologies for the double comment, I’ve just checked out The Impact Equation and I’d love that instead! I think I’ll buy it anyway. The behemoth looks daunting, but I wouldn’t refuse it if I won it. 😉

  • Brenda says:

Only recently found you Chris, but hope to follow you and your travels for many moons. I downloaded your manifesto and 279 Days…just yesterday. Found them both quite intriguing and know several people I will be forwarding your info to.

  • Cynthia Morris says:

Penultimate is a great word…and one you can use only in very specific situations. I bet you have been waiting a LONG time to use it regarding your travel adventure!

I’m attending an Icarus Session in Denver tomorrow and am very excited about Seth’s latest rallying cry.

I would love to win the Sketchnote Handbook! I haven’t heard of it and will definitely check it out if I don’t win it. I’m planning to do more visual fun this year.

Thanks, Chris, for being the brave, bold, life hacker you are and having the heart and skills to write about it, so we, too, can be bold. Happy 2013!

  • Joseph Bernard says:

Thank you very much Chris for the inspiration you keep spreading out into the world.

In this first few moments of 2013, I invite all of us to go beyond our stories, our history, our conditioning, our fears and hopes and realize even if for only a moment who we are.

We are pure awareness, light, love and one with all. Open to the river of joy that wants to flow through you in this moment and every moment.

Listen inward and be guided to the realization of your highest expression of mind, heart and soul.

    Peace to you.

  • Ruben says:

    Hey Chris,

First off, thank you for the inspiration you have given me through your book – The $100 Startup – which I found about a month ago. You essentially provided a strong nudge for me to finally get started on what I have long wanted to do but have not found the courage to go for, until now.

Seth’s previous book (Tribes) has also been a source of inspiration and wonderful insights. I am sure his new book will be a great source of valuable ideas as well.

Dan’s insights on what truly motivates each one of us pretty much nail it on the head. I can’t wait to read about what new breakthrough ideas he has to share in his new book.

Happy new year to you and your family! I’m sure this will be another awesome year for you and for all those who are crazy enough to want to change the world – some of whom were certainly inspired by you.

  • Rob ward says:

Already ordered a copy of Dan’s book but I would love to get Seth’s as well!

  • Ingrid says:

Hi, This is the year that I step out and fulfill one of my goals to be in Europe with my family. Thanks for paving the way. Ingrid

  • Sophia says:

Can I win the win the behemoth collection and other titles including the Icarus Deception please? Also, this is a lot to ask but if you have an extra copy of your book to include with those too would you please include it? I heard about your blog from reading the rise 365 blog and think it’s really cool.

  • Joe says:

I’m commenting to win the books, but I’d also like to thank you for what you’ve done in 2012, including the totally awesome WDS.

  • DK Raymer says:

A drawing to start 2013; how fun!
Happy New Year to my favorite globe-trotting sage. Thanks for the continual encouragement to live life on our own terms.
    DK

  • Travis says:

Well, I spent 2012 volunteering part in Zimbabwe and and the other in Belize. An amazing experience to say the least, thanks in part to your support and motivation! Though you have no idea I’ve adopted you as my big bro – a source of down-to-earth guidance and someone who makes me feel not so crazy (or at lease okay with being crazy). So, just wanted to say thanks for that! These two books are now definitely on my to read list for 2013. Now that I’m back at home base in S. Florida I’m planning where this unconventional life will take me next? I think this is the year to start building my empire Alexander style but as a volunteer In a third world country I don’t exactly have the funds left to buy the kit right now, so I’m taking you up on your offer to ask a favor, after all we have not because we ask not! Regardless, I just wanted to say thanks and I can’t wait to see where 2013 takes us!
Ps: Big congrats on your penultimate country!!!

  • Marie says:

Happy New Year! And even more importantly, Happy Penultimate Country! You serve as an enourmous inspiration in my life and work. Thank you for sharing your insights and perspectives. Cannot wait to see what you do next!

  • Jeff says:

Would love a new book for the new year!

  • Kathryn Plett says:

I have appreciated your blog posts and the encouragement to get out there to travel but also to consider new ways of looking at ones world… work and life. Thank you so much.

I love new books and would especially enjoy reading Seth Godin’s new book and Pink’s as well.

I am getting my passport updated and working out my travel goals and goals for growth.

Happy New Year to you Chris!

  • Elaine P says:

Suggestions?

Congratulations on your penultimate experience! Completing the pursuit of a long term goal is one of the most rewarding experiences in life. I hope you can relish every minute of it. Your note about consistency in this blog post is a testament to the fact that you are also persistent, and value it. “Brains are a commodity, persistence is a rarity”

2012 was a big year for me, and (unknowingly to you) you played a role in it. In October I took the leap from corporate to start my own company – a 7 year pursuit in the making. It took a million people, books, and journal entries to take the leap, your book, The Art of Non Conformity, was one of them. THANK YOU!

Can you please enter my name in the contest to win Seth Godin’s behemoth?

Happy New Year, and All the best in 2013!

  • Anna Spencer says:

  • Doncy says:

    Happy New Year All ~!

    Hello Chris ~ Please, Pick-Me…Pick-Me ~!

Why you say ~? Well, my Birthday is on January 13th, and I will be the big 5-0 ~ ’50’ Years Old ~ WooOOoo-HooOOoo ~!

I am still unemployed, since March 2012, have zero money coming in, and only $478.12 left to my name ~ I do not have enough money to pay my January rent, and have a greedy, non-compassionate landlady ~ Hahaha ~! In addition, the heating source in this house is wood, which I have run out of ~ I live in the cold Colorado Rocky Mountains…burr…burr…burr ~! It’s 34 degrees in this house right now ~!

However, I will not loose hope that better days are ahead, and that my dream of authoring and publishing my book will become a reality ~ While all the odds might seem to be stacked against me, my hope has not diminished ~ All I can do is giggle and thank the Universe for placing me on a new and exciting path of fresh adventure ~ I refuse to live in fear and believe that Our Creator has turned its/her/his back on me ~

Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of this gifting experience ~ May safety be your shadow ~

    Namaste Friend ~

PS) If you ever need, or want, a traveling partner…

What would I like from you? A 15 minute interview or consultation.

  • Chris says:

The Icarus Deception title is very engaging: the implication that the sky is not the limit and we have been fooled into thinking we can fly too high and should thus limit ourselves is enticing. Would love to read the book. Onto my wishlist it goes.

The “To Sell Is Human” book by Daniel Pink could be very impactful for me. (Getting that book would be penultimate to my solopreneur explosion!)

Thanks to you and a couple other people you endorsed, I have read more books in the last year than I have in the last 15. I still have several books to read but would love another to add to the list.

I hope you, your wife, your cat, and everyone has a great 2013. May it be full of adventures, memories, and a life you want to live.

  • Turner says:

Sounds like some light, breezy reading. I’m in.

  • Jake Bramante says:

Chris, I completely agree with you on how amazing Seth Godin is. His work is a constant inspiration to keep me moving in what I’m doing. In my reflections from this year, I have been thinking of those writers that have motivated me the most and Seth has been there from a philosophical approach with ideas such as trust, connection, consistency, etc, while another writer. Another, Michael Hyatt, has brought his CEO/Type-A step by step approach to problems to help with boots on the ground delivery.

What I was missing was that middle piece of taking something that I knew to be valuable to others and breaking it down into products that could help people and be a source of revenue. That piece was your $100 Startup book which I’ve referred to many people since. It was not only an “idea shop” but the “permission” if you will and let me know that I wasn’t crazy. I’ll be shipping some things I’m really proud of this spring. Thanks soooo much!

Oh and I’d love to have you throw my name in your drawing as I would love Seth’s new books and I’ve yet to read Dan Pink.

  • Carly says:

I’d love any of the books – especially one of Seth’s. Happy New Year!

  • Phil says:

    Fantastic journey Chris.

  • Nina Nelson says:

Thanks for the opportunity, Chris, I’d love to win any of those books. Happy New Year!

  • Dee Dee says:

I saw this post and got so excited. I thought I saw that a cat was being offered in addition to the books as a giveaway. However, I think that would be hard to ship. In that case, any of the books would be a great way to ‘read’ in the new year.

    Hope you are enjoying Tuvalu!

  • Daniela Castillo says:

Stumbled upon your blog a couple of weeks ago and am now hooked. Great post as always!

    Enjoy Tuvalu, happy new year!

  • Erin says:

Chris, I wish you the most wonderful year to come. I want to thank you for having been a wonderful influence on me in the year that has just passed. I emailed you two and a half years ago, just to say I was excited to count myself among your small army. I was just about to leave Thailand, where I was living, for Europe, which was new to me. You emailed me out of the blue a year and a half ago, checking to see how my adventures were going. I was back in the USA and had hit a major rough patch, having just sustained an injury that had me temporarily out of work, and you predicted things were about to turn around. That small conversation was tremendously helpful, and is one of the things I’ve kept in mind while launching my own business this year. Eleven months ago, I quit a job that was running me ragged for too few rewards. I had six months of struggling to get my office open, and the past five months have been all learning curves and rebuilding, but I am 100% self-employed. It’s not easy, but it’s absolutely worth it. Thank you for being among those who have encouraged me!

  • Phil says:

Happy New Year! I heard about Daniel Pink’s new book yesterday on NPR. Looking forward to reading it! Cheers to a great 2013 Chris!

  • Aaron Kelley says:

I would love a copy of these books. Looking to truly change my life in 2013, and I know these books will help me reach my goals.

  • Roberto says:

I would love to read any of the books mentioned above. Thanks for the offer.

  • Breanne Dyck says:

Chris, you continue to be an inspiration. I look forward to applying the lessons I’ve learned from you as I grow my own $100 start-up in the coming year. I feel as though I’m still finding my feet and defining how (and who) I can best serve through my business, and look forward to learning more from you as I do so, in the days and mons ahead. Best for 2013!

(And th books all sound wonderful, though I dare say the behemoth may be too large to be practical! I think I’ll stick to reading Seth’s blog online :-))

  • Todd Henion says:

Great Post, Chris, and congrats on the penultimate! Love that word as well.

    Happy New Year somewhere.

  • Nick says:

I would love any of those books! Thank you for all the inspiration lately – Happy New Year!

  • Gregory Brown says:

    Hey Chris,

For some reason the name Tuvalu makes me want to break into song like an old black and white movie hope you are enjoying your journey.

I started a new book blog this week called Top Hat Reviews in order to practice blogging in a non-monetized environment while I work on a for profit website. I’d love some great new books to review! Thank you for the opportunity!

  • Shelley says:

Happy New Year, Chris! Thanks for offering this giveaway!

  • Stephen says:

    Chris,

This is a great idea. I’ve read books written by both authors, as well as yourself, and they will make a fantastic addition to my library. Best wishes for 2013 and looking forward to WDS2013!

  • Lynn says:

How very generous of you! I absolutely love your blog. It’s one of only three that I subscribe to through Google Reader. Of course, Seth’s is one of them. I’ve read The Icarus Deception, but would love a copy of any of the others. Especially the Impact Equation.
Enjoy the rest of your time in Tuvalu!

  • Audrey says:

I would absolutely love to win any of Seth’s books or blog behemoth! Having said that I would love to win any of the books you mention!

  • Paul says:

Thanks for the giveways. Also thanks for the website. The only thing you can do for me is enjoy the beach. Why bother going all the way to the South Pacific if you can’t enjoy the beach at least a little bit. 🙂

  • BJ says:

Hi! Really trying to give my life some injectios of things real….about 2 weeks new to your site..would love books. Also, I am thankful for your website.

  • Joseph says:

Some new and inspiring books are a great way to start the year. I would love to win these!

  • Patricia Hughes says:

You are awesome and inspiring, Happy New Year!

  • Bob Watson says:

Chris, you continue to inspire me to change the way I am living out my life. After working in the corporate world for 20+ years it was time to release the dependency on that paycheck (ready or not) and start my own business. Some mornings I wake up with a knot in my stomach, but focusing on being the best in my business every day. Can’t wait to read The Icarus Deception and would love a copy!

  • Beth says:

Happy New Year! Still figuring out where to head to in 2013, but one thing is certain: I’m looking forward to Portland in July! Would love to read Seth’s book before I arrive at the Summit.

  • Ginny says:

I have designated 2013 as The Year of the Purge, but I can’t resist a good book (or 7), much less a behemoth. This is me raising my hand and saying “Pick me!”

  • Mark Eldridge says:

Let’s get it started! I want the BEHEMOTH!

  • Ratana says:

Congrats on visiting your penultimate country, that’s fantastic! And thanks for the continued inspiration. Also, books are awesome and a new one is a great way to start off the new year. All the best to you & your readers in 2013!

  • Angela says:

Thanks for the cool giveaway – I’ve been reading your articles in my email for a while now.

  • Riz says:

Chris, wishing you the very best in this new year! I had written to you in the early days of your blog and was happy to hear back. I’m still amazed at your dedication to the readers and just wanted to thank you. I’m still struggling to make a passive income while workig a full time gig. I don’t need a lot more, maybe $1000-$2000/month extra and I’m a happy camper. What do you recommend I read/do (have already read your $100 startup and seen I’m Fine Thanks) – just finding it difficult to find that great idea and start!

    Thanks again!

  • Glenn says:

Seth Godin, Dan Miller and Daniel Pink — A few of my daily and weekly required readings! Any of those would be a welcome addition to the library. Happy New Year, Chris!

  • Ari says:

What an awesome beginning to 2013! I would graciously accept any offering 🙂

  • Garrett Hughes says:

Happy new year to you! Hope you’re enjoying your time in your home country! I appreciate the information you’re constantly sharing with your readers. If I could have anything from the picture I would like: Wisdom Meets Passion, The Sketchbook Handbook, and I’m Fine, Thanks. Thank you for putting out this drawing and I look forward to seeing the winners chosen.

  • Christy says:

I would LOVE to win the behemoth – Seth Godin’s This Might Work. Here’s why:

I love books. Love. Treasure. It might be a little unhealthy.
I love things that are unique, different not readily available. This book is that and will have a prominent place on my bookshelf.
I feel like I’m at a crisis point right now. So unhappy with my day job, dreading going back tomorrow, verging on depression. I think I’m meant to do something great and I think this unhappiness is the push I need to do it. And I think maybe Seth’s book will provide some inspiration…

Also, the question for you… Is there any way I can get a rain check on that? I’ve followed you for years and admire you for many reasons and would love to be able to ask you a question but I don’t have one yet! And I hate that I’m not prepared for this opportunity.

Thanks for being so generous with your time, your ideas and inspiration. Have an awesome new year!

  • Sharon says:

Thank you so much for your generosity! I would love to win! Thanks again and Happy New Year to you!

  • Yoshi says:

Hi Chris, wish I could have joined your party in Portland, sounds like a great time! I have a burning question: do you know of any women who have traveled around the world (kind of like you) solo, really solo, not just sort of. There are lots of places it just seems very risky to travel as a female. Do men (generally) have to think about personal safety in way I think many(most) women do? Does being raped, beaten, robed, stabbed and violated factor into the equation for guys? By the way, I’m not a pessimist, just trying to be smart about safety. What’s your experience and advice about this?
    Hope I win a book 🙂

  • Joanna says:

I deeply appreciate your work in the world, Chris, and I look forward to reading several of these books (whether or not I win anything). New Year’s Blessings to you and Jolie!

  • bronwyn.schuster@gmail.com says:

I’m on a book reading kick right now. Started taking the 7 day 7 book challenge from julien smith. If I don’t win a book, you can be sure that I will add some of these to the list anyway!

Thank you for the wonderful year of great articles!

  • gina says:

Please enter me to win! Just found you, your blog and your books and am making all of them a part of kicking off 2013. Thank you!

  • Mike Melia says:

Cool – my business has monthly deadlines and closing the year out was a big deal. I sat with one of my two partners keeping an eye on last minute sales and checking in to see how the team was doing.

I feel blessed to have made the decision in my early twenties that I was going to live a life of being true to my self and my values.

I applaud the Unconventional Life and am continually inspired by your Journey.

    Happy 2013

  • Marta says:

I’d love to win one of these books. 🙂 That would be a nice beginning of the new year.

All the best to you in 2013!

  • Cassie Bruce says:

I would love to win those books!! Reading is one of my favorite pastimes and those all look right up my alley!!

  • NIPUN NIKUNJ says:

i like the book “to sell is Human” when i read it. i found very interesting. Both the writer made my attachments with their books as i read some books from them….
    thanks a lot

  • Amanda says:

I’d love to read Seth’s, Dan’s, or more of your work!

Your generous, abundant, honest, and down to earth (while up-in-the-air!) approach to your sharing your work is super inspiring. The oversell that folks are still using, requiring tons of scrolling/pushing/convincing/fear-mongering/infomercial-like-ness is so 2005! I hope your unconventional non-pushy confident approach becomes more widespread.

Thanks for what you do. Here’s to a great year!

  • Francis says:

Awesome giveaway from the behemoth to The Icarus Deception to the To Sell is Human. I’d love to receive any one of these fantastic give-aways. It would be a great start to 2013!

  • Matt MacLaughlin says:

My son introduced me to the two of you a little over a year ago — I’m convinced I can break out of the routine I find myself in and make it on my own — I’m moving into an area I’ve always wanted to get competitive in and the publications the two of you have put out have affirmed my decision — 279 days, $100 Startup, Linchpin, Tribes, Purple Cow are all part of my new library all of which have been read and are referenced regularly — I even made it a point to purchase multiple copies of $100 startup to give to the young folks I work with — these are young talented kids and your book has affirmed the idea that there is something better out there. So I’ll jump at the chance of getting any material either of the two of you put out — hope I make the cut — Happy New Year Matt

  • Joanna says:

I deeply appreciate your work in the world, Chris, and I look forward to reading several of these books, whether I win or not. New Year’s Blessings to you and Jolie!

  • Nicole says:

I would LOVE any of the books (and the behemoth!)! I really enjoy reading your posts and one of my resolutions is to maximize my ability to travel hack this year! My fiance is in the UK (for now) and we’re getting married in January 2014 here in the US, so I want to hack as much as I can to help his family and friends get over here.

And if you’re feel really generous, you could find me a silvery/white brooch in Tuvalu for me to put in the brooch bouquet I’m making for my wedding! Happy new year!

  • Trevor says:

I’d love to win one of the books. I look forward to devouring more of your posts this year. Safe and fruitful travels!

  • Laurie Ann says:

I’ve already ordered To Sell Is Human and am waiting for the special New Year’s Day webinar he is having for people who pre-ordered to begin. What an inspirational way to start the new year!

But all the rest of the books are on my Wish List… and oh how I wish to win one. Am about to enter a two month period of personal reflection and growth; and any one would be a perfect additional to that theme.

  • Ryan says:

    Hey Chris,

Keep on inspiring people – its been great keeping track of you over the past six months. I know you’ve gotten me started on thinking about my own business, and I appreciate that a lot.

Also – keep up the generosity – you’re book giveaway is another awesome gesture.

    Happy 2013!

  • Lana says:

I’d love to read any of the books you mentioned – all sound really interesting.Specially Seth Godin’s collection!

$100 Startup is one of the best books I’ve read last year. Very inspiring. Bought copies for my friends too : )

Happy New Year and enjoy Tuvalu!

  • Ashley says:

Thank you, Chris for being such an inspiration! I have read and own 2 of your books. $100 Start Up stays within reach for reference and encouragement.

This year I launched my home organizing business (which has been successful so far) and I am going to school to be an interior designer and to take it to the next level.

I would LOVE to be the winner of any books! I am an avid reader and thrive on the knowledge of others.

Thank you my friend for all you have already done for me!

  • Charles says:

Thanks for the give away offer. Please consider this an entry. Congratulations on getting to only two countries to go. Amazing feat! I really appreciate all the wisdom you have shared in 2012 and you are my model of how to get things done.

If 2013 is anything like your 2012 I am going to have to clone myself to keep up. $100 Start Up has been my guide going forward and so far everything is working wonderfully. I am grateful for the wonderful opportunities and life that I get to live everyday and you are a part of that success.

Best wishes for 2013 and Happy New Year.

  • Pierre says:

  • Jerome says:

Your blog helped inspire me to create a walking tour through Over-The-Rhine, which in 2009 was labeled the most dangerous community in America. We took 35,000 people on our tours last year.

Thank you for your work and I am excited about possibly winning free the collection.

  • Laura says:

Happy New Year! Would love to have some of those books, and am enjoying the challenge of collecting a lot of points on my cards these days, thanks to you!

  • Dave Richards says:

  • Johanne says:

Fantastique! I would love to be included in the draw for “the behemoth” compilation of blog posts by Seth. Also include me for the other books. It would be a great way to start 2013.

I wish you the best in your travels and a successful new year.

    Thank you for your generosity!

  • Matthew Bailey says:

Wow, almost finished. Its been awesome watching you for the last few years. I love Seths work too so even though this book sounds a lot like his other book, Linchpin, I’ll read it anyways. Always inspiring.

I’d love to also win the behemoth

    All the best!

  • Marcin W. Dąbrowski says:

What a nice way to start this very new year. Well, we passed another End of the World, and nothing can stop us right now in our path to… well, wherever you head to. So, yeah, I’d love to take part in the giveaway, maybe one of these books will help me along my road.

And if you can do something while on Tuvalu — oh yes, I’d love to see a photo of a sunrise, seen from a beach, with some nice quote put in the sand — you’ll figure the quote for us readers yourself. I know, it’s a cliché, but why not? 🙂

    PS: Happy New Year, everybody!

  • Robin says:

Chris, I can’t thank you enough for your ongoing inspiration, practical ideas and ceaseless modeling of the authentic life. You light up the path. May 2013 be the best year yet.

Happy New Year! I would love to get another copy of the behemoth edition. Yes–I already have one. But I’m upset with myself for not getting a second copy. I’d like to have one at home and at work to keep the inspiration going–and to fuel other converts in the workplace!

I’ll also enjoy any of the other books on your list, especially the Strongest Librarian! Take care.

  • Stevie says:

I can’t imagine skipping December 31st entirely. It has come to mean so much to me, thanks to you and your end of the year analysis. Yes, send me anything. I’ll be very happy. The rest I’ll check out at the library, eventually.
    Happy New Year!

  • Sharyl Fickas says:

Congrats on finishing your world tour! Your example (and posts) have been very inspiring.

After reading the comments so far, (day 1 has barely begun here in Portland), I’d like to advocate for Robynn to receive a book. I was excited and a bit envious to read about her plans to move to South America and start her own business. Wishing her all the luck in the world.

If you should find yourself with an extra copy of “Turning Pro” on your hands, I would love to read it!

    Thanks so much!

Seth’s blog is the one and only blog I have a habit of reading daily. It’s the first one I go to because 9 times out of 10, it’s completely relevant to where I’m at. He’s amazing and I’d love his behemoth!

Thanks for rocking another year, Chris! Cheers to 2013!

  • Tiffany says:

Your travel hacking tips have been invaluable, and your blog continues to make me think positively about my future. I would love a copy of one of these books you recommend!

  • Austin L Church says:

    Hi Chris,
Greetings from Knoxville. Thanks for your generous offer to give books away—and all the fun that goes with that. If I had to choose, I’d go for Seth Godin’s behemoth. I’ve already ordered The Icarus Deception, and it sounds like I should use some of my Amazon credit to buy Pink’s new book. I appreciate all the inspiration and tales from abroad in 2012, and I have no doubt that 2013 will be your best year ever. See you in Nashville in January for the book tour.

    Cheers,
    Austin

  • Ellen Scott Grable says:

    Hi Chris,

I spent 2012 reading several of your books and not only have they significantly shifted my life but the lives of all who borrowed or stole these same books from me! You are a life changer and I would be overjoyed to read more from you or your like minded colleagues. Throw my name in the hat. I think a free or gifted book which has life changing impact is the best possible gift there is!

Keep on keeping on showing us the light!

  • Joe K says:

I’d love to have any of these books, should I be fortunate enough to win.

    Thanks for the chance!

  • Steven Cochran says:

Hi Chris! You’re an inspiration to many, including myself, and I’m very happy for you because it looks like you’re going to meet your goal of making it to every last country! I hope you have a great new year in 2013 – seems like you’re off to a good start. I’ll admit, I’d love to receive a giveaway but I’ve had to give away lots of promo over the years as a musician so I understand when there’s only so much to go around. Still, I could really use a pick me up right about now! I just got out of the hospital for the 4th time since September and I’ve been struggling with great hardship. I turn to your work in such times for inspiration and courage to face life and give it my all. I’m not trying to flatter you with the hopes of winning something, but I do sincerely appreciate your refreshing take on life and your style of writing is very compatible with my style of reading! Anyway, keep up the good work and thanks for all that you do. I’ve never seen an author devote themselves to their fanbase quite the way that you do. Again – this is NOT flattery! I mean it sincerely. I wish you and your family the best in the new year. Btw – penultimate… never heard of it, but great word!

  • Pat Tharp says:

Thank you Chris and your community for the inspiring and encouraging content here. It has helped me to pursue my dreams, stay focused and be generous along the way. I would welcome any free books with a thankful heart! Happy New Year!

    Enjoy the final countries!

  • Sinduja Karl Marx says:

Almost done with visiting the entire world…
    awesome job

  • Robin says:

Thank you for your generous spirit! I would enjoy any of the books you are offering, but the behemoth I would appreciate most of all because I can’t buy it. I already own almost everything I could purchase from Seth and I always enjoy his work as much as your own. One of the things I am grateful for in 2012 is your impact on my life through the website and some of your books, so please keep up the great work and have a wonderful 2013!

  • Sheryl Karas says:

One day I woke up and realized that my biggest heart’s desire (and what I think I’m most good at) would force me to lead a very unconventional (and insecure-feeling, for me) life! I wanted (want) to be an artist. So I picked another career (book writer) that also hasn’t been the most secure, conventional (or financially viable yet) choice. And that led to a completely different career direction and a day job that inadvertently led me in the direction of being forced to lead an unconventional life ANYWAY! I fell off my own fiscal cliff and suffered many of the consequences I most feared. But I wasn’t allowed to fall all the way. And now I realize there is not a job I so far have been able to imagine being happy doing that would not lead to living an unconventional life. I better embrace the life I’ve been leading and get really good at making a living while I do. I like to travel but I’ve had no interest in travel hacking. I read your posts (and Seth Godin’s) religiously because you both give me hope on the path.

  • Zandra Embury says:

I bought your $100 Startup book a few months ago and am learning…I’d like to learn more so would appreciate any book that you are giving away.

  • Laura says:

Looking forward to hearing your plans for 2013!

  • Angelica Gottberg says:

Thank you for your generosity Chris! One of the main reasons I’ve followed you for the past year (man that sounds creepy out of context…) is your general philosophy of being so giving in business/whatever else.

I often bounce between your blog and Seth’s for entrepreneurial encouragement, especially since finally getting out of a 9-5 this past month that was stressful and kept me from being productive and moving forward in other areas of my life. It’s made my husband’s and my life a lot tighter financially for the time being, but we already know it was a really smart move and now I can move forward in my design work. Here’s to 2013 and new beginnings for a lot of us!

Thank you for your continuous encouragement and insight! Happiest of New Years!

p.s. oh yeah and I would love Seth’s new book. =D I’d probably inhale that in one sitting.

I posted a comment when there were 17 comments but moderation jumped over me in the wave of replies ;-(
Would love love behemoth. All the books sounds great in their own way.
Tuvalu. Enjoy! And thanks for inspiring work.

  • Brian says:

Chris, thanks so much for this opportunity, I love Seth Godin’s books and the opportunity to acquire “the behemoth” or any of the other great books you listed such as The Impact Equation would be amazing.

And separately, I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your writings as well as the community you’ve built of like-minded people who share so many great thins a well. In part from your writings, I am finishing up the last 2 months of a year of travel and working on building a business inspired through the $100 Startup. Happy New Year and thanks again for your work!

  • Stephen Paulson says:

Read a preview of Behemoth, & downloaded a sample of Icarus Deception. Any title in the giveaway would be welcome! Enjoyed $100 Startup. Art of Noncomformity waiting to be read in my iBooks. What’s holding me back? Just enough comfort. And fear. Decent job, but I want freedom. Twenty-three years invested, just 10 more until retirement (sounds like a prison sentence). Obligations to pay for. The expectations of others. But I am a diehard optimist, and I believe that an incredible life is possible for me. If I don’t start soon, it will have flown by one day at a time.

  • Erik says:

Penultimate is a good word. In college, my scav team was called “Antepenultimatum” in the humble hopes of doing better than the previous year.

Thank you for teaching me through your writing and lifestyle. In particular, thank you for providing the simple 1k/day (6 days a week) writing discipline suggestion, which I’ve adopted/stolen — is it really stealing when you tell us to? Of the self-help/inspiration blogs I’ve read, yours is often the most articulate and likable.

Best wishes for a healthy, harmonious, and convergent New Year!

P.S. The book for taking notes through sketching sounds intriguing, and the mammoth blog compilation book sounds frightening, but in a good way. If you’re still giving away any of those books, I’ll take one!

P.P.S. Have you ever used a “business incubator” to help launch a product, and if so, have you blogged about it?

  • Erin Friedman says:

    Why, yes I would!

  • Taylor says:

What an incredibly generous offer — telling people to contact you personally for ANYTHING. You are awesome; simple as that.

I drove 6 hours to New Orleans for one night just to meet you! Love AONC and The $100 Startup!

Please do include me in the book giveaway. 🙂

  • Tessa says:

My husband would kill me if I got another cat, so good thing she’s not involved in the giveaway!

All of these books look incredible…great giveaway Chris.

  • Nancy Spiegel says:

    Chris:

  • Dave Moninger says:

Chris, I hope that your completion of your “’round the world” country tour is an upswing for your life! Enjoy 2013.

  • Ellie says:

Hey Chris. New to your blog and loving it so far. I keep switching back and forth from this kind of thinking to a conventional conservative life, so hopefully this will give me the energy not to keep running back to the convential life.

Love reading so am always up for a new book should I be so lucky!

    Happy New Year in Tuvalo.

  • Tess says:

Thank you for the inspiration Chris! You created a life truly your own, and you encourage others to do the same. Penultimate – you’re almost there!

Congratulations on being so close to your goal of visiting every country!
My husband and I are taking the baby steps it will need to find our new life as 2013 begins. Starting a new business, continuing to look for a new way doing what we have been doing or just weighing our options. The past 2 years have been a true education for us! Not at all what we thought would be happening to us.
Thank you for your great blog showing us some new options. I would love to win the books if that is what is in our path!
Happy New Year to everyone in the world! Hope we get to visit a few places on this planet this year too!

  • Liz says:

Happy New Year! What better way to start it than by sharing knowledge and inspiration…In the form of books.

  • Joseph Lalonde says:

So happy to hear you’re nearing your goal of visiting all of the countries in the world. It’s amazing!

I was disappointed to find out I missed out on the Behemoth when Seth offered it on Kickstarter. I would’ve jumped on it. So it would be terrific if I could win it here.

The Icarus Deception sounds amazing. Can’t wait to rip into that one as it arrived at the house the other day. Also hosting one of the sessions tomorrow. Should be a ball of fun.

    Travel safe my friend!

  • Jeffrey Romano says:

Thanks for your generosity Chris. It would be great to get one of the books. I promise to review the book in my 3200+ member LinkedIn group (Business Professionals in Malta) if you choose to send me one. I’m sure they’ll lead to some interesting discussions.

  • Alain says:

Seth has been the genesis for many great conversations. I routinely pins his posts on my office wall to share with co-workers. He is also the reason I found, read and became a huge fan of your blog and books. I’d LOVE to win

  • Jeff says:

  • Martinb says:

Don’t really need the giveaway (As i’ll probably buy them regardless), but thanks for the blog and the great books. They’ve been really helpful. Enjoy your final countries.

  • Ricardo Alleyne says:

Hey Chris, read both of your books this year and saw you speak at Indigo in Toronto (though it was crowded and I was standing waaay in the back). Always looking for more great reading material, and Pink and Godin are favorites, but if I don’t win I appreciate the inspiring posts. Wishing you the best for a productive new year and advance congratulations on making it to the last country on your list.

Commenting to thank you for a great 2012, and to possibly win a book. But just excited for the opportunity of 2013 and starting a new journey with my blog.

    Cheers Chris!

  • Jen says:

Happy New Year’s from Sydney (your newest favourite city I hear!) and Congrats on your pending penultimate. I can’t justify the shipping costs of the Behemoth to Australia, but would love to get my hands on the Icarus Deception to share with my undergraduate students. All the best for 2013!

  • Lisa says:

  • Cynthia says:

Tuvalu! Wahoo! I’ve actually met someone from there several years ago. Would be a nice place to visit. Have fun!

  • Alex in Leeds says:

I’ve been reading this site so long I can’t quite imagine not tuning in to see where you are in the world. Still, I know whatever 2013 holds in store for you, it’ll be amazing to follow. I’ll put my name in the hat for the behemoth set of Godin blog posts. It’d be a hell of a read and fun to review on my book blog. 🙂

  • Juan Edilio says:

Happy New Year Chris, if you have the time I would like to ask if you could help me connect with someone who would be sailing the Mediterranean this summer (around June). I start traveling RTW this April and wanted to do that (I have some basic knowledge of sailing).

Also, I would like to travel one northern African country in my RTW trip. Any advice is welcome.

    Happy New Year Chris!
Congratulations on being only a country away from completing your epic quest. I love getting your emails every week and am constantly inspired by your drive, generosity and sincerity, which are the real deal (I was at your meet-up in Melbourne). I am enjoying reading $100 Startup and would be so pleased to win Seth’s behemoth or one of the free books from Seth, Dan Pink or Chris Brogan. Thank you for the opportunity to enter and I wish you all the best for a great year ahead and more exciting projects.

  • Wyman Crane says:

333 comments at the time I added mine. Free still works. Thanks for all the reads on your blog. It is the only one I read every week. I have all of your and Seth’s books but have never heard of Daniel Pink. Please put me in a drawing to be introduced to his writing. Hooray for accomplishing your visit every country goal. God bless you and your understanding wife. She must be a keeper like mine of 56 years.

  • michelle wood says:

    Chris
I’m stoked you are within a heartbeat of your goal. Your story is one i definitely turn towards for inspiration.
    All the best

  • Dorothy says:

The behemoth collection sounds like a great read. I always enjoy to read Seth’s thoughts. But, then again, any of them sound great. I always like to read new, alternative, motivational stuff. As a misplaced artist, working in business, I bet there are a lot of folks out there like me. I have started a business on a slow roll that I hope to grow over time. I am wondering how many “art majors” follow your blog. Do you have any idea?

  • Nan Narboe says:

You’ve got the equivalent of a fire sale going on here while you’re in the air flying to your version of Tuva.

    Good for you, CG.

    Nan

  • Claire says:

I’m intrigued by the stack of books you’re giving away. Several I’d love to read.

    Happy New Year, Chris!

  • Garrison Reekers says:

This will be the first year that I have set a goal for reading a certain number of books. I love to read but do not take time to read as much as I should. My reading goal for this year is 26 books. I also follow Dan Miller and have become more intentional with my goals.

A free book would cut down on costs for purchasing the books through the year. I also follow Dave Ramsey and starting to win with money also. In addition having my own book allows me to freely give books I have read to people who can benefit from them as you are doing.

Thank you for your work and the opportunity.

  • Michelle says:

Fantastic giveaway! Love your book and blog, and am also big fan of both Seth Godin and Dan Pink. Enjoy your time in Tuvalu!

  • Jennifer Keane says:

Your blog is such an inspiration to get out there and make all those travel dreams in my mind come true. I just spent New Years Eve in Barcelona shoveling twelve grapes into my mouth at the first twelve strokes of midnight. I’m anxious to see what the next New Year’s will have in store.

If any of the books are as interesting and inspiring as your blog/book, I’d love to delve into them!

  • Ritu says:

Happy New Year! And a penultimate ‘congrats’ for a penultimate journey.

I’m happy to win anything, including The $100 start up.

And regardless of it all, Seth Godin absolutely ROCKS. If you can ever arrange/offer a lunch or coffee with him, I’m absolutely IN. 🙂

  • Bill Long says:

    Superb New Year’s offer, Chris!
I would absolutely love to win one of these books, particularly Seth’s compilation or his The Icarus Deception.
Your spirit of adventure continues to be a wellspring of pure inspiration.

  • Debbie E. says:

    Hi Chris,
As a Christmas gift to myself, I re-read the $100 StartUp last week as inspiration for this upcoming year. I’m so excited for the upcoming year and books such as these, especially the Icarus Deception would be amazingly helpful! Thanks for the giveaway and best wishes for a wonderful New Year!

  • Rebecca Stafford says:

I DON”T WANT THE BOOKS. Seriously. I may buy them later. I would rather someone else had the enjoyment at Christmas time.

But Chris I did want to thank you for showing us we are not alone in being disatisfied with mainstream/conformity – for normalising being disatisfied with being small – for talking and walking rocking the boat.

If my own experiences are anything to go by, I suspect you will never fully comprehend how much you have helped so many people.

I forget the author of this quote, but I think it nicely sums up your life after your last-country-party – “If the way ahead is clear – it’s probably someone elses”

Your way ahead is extremely unclear and I am confident you will have much enjoyment and many adventures while hacking a unique path

  • Nick says:

I love the blog and I’d love to win anything.

Best of luck with the final 2!

    -Nick

  • Anita Horton says:

Dear Chris, I want to take this opportunity to Thank You for being a mentor to me. I have read your words and followed your advice for months and I am now ready to step forward into my goal of a lifetime. I am preparing to move overseas and teach art in an international school this next school year. It is because of your support of me and countless others, that I began my own blog this year. This blog became my accountability partner to stay focused and to practice being courageous and inspirational to others. I am familiar with the authors you think so much of, but for me, your books are the ones that have inspired me. If my name is selected, I would be so grateful to receive your new, revised Travel Hacking book. I will need it after I get placed in my new international position not only to help me acquire miles/points for my own travel, but to learn how to give the miles away to others so they can come visit me. You and your wife will always be welcome. You are a loving and inspirational man and because of your caring, I, too am able to be inspirational. Thank you.

  • Andrew says:

I would love to win, then you could tell my success story in your next book. Thank you.

  • Ken in Oregon says:

Here is what I want: For you to dive into blue water and snorkel till you are just tired enough to return to the beach and nap in the sun. I’m in the Oregon Coast Range so none of that is happening for me right now. Vicarious is as vicarious does. Enjoy.

  • Leanne says:

I’d love a copy of The Icarus Deception! Happy New Year!

  • Salvatore says:

I just finished re-reading all of the Harry Potter books so I’m in need of a new good book to read.

Thanks for this offer, Happy New Year!

  • Cynthia says:

When I read your line: ” Precisely, I feel very fortunate to have stumbled on this strange career / life / everything. It’s insanely ridiculous and incredibly fun.” I thought of the quote: “A lucky man is one who considers himself so”.

    Thanks – CKB

  • Abby says:

I’d love some new books for the New Year! Turning Pro is probably waiting in my mailbox right now, but I’d love win any of the others, or Seth’s behemoth collection.

I hope everyone finds inspiration in 2013 whether you win a book or not.

  • Daniel says:

Oh the behemoth, how I desireth you!
Interesting fact: the Tuvaluan dollar is tied on parity to the Australian dollar, and while your Australian moolah is happily accepted anywhere on the 25sq km island you can’t spend Tuvaluan coin in Australia.

  • Helene Van Doninck says:

Hello, Happy New Year! Would love to win any of the books, even the behemoth 🙂

    Helene

  • Seth says:

Some of my favorite writers and thinkers being discussed here! I hope you’re enjoying your visit to Tuvalu, Chris! I’d love to get a copy of any of the books discussed in this post.

Thank you for this generous and uplifting start to 2013! Your email/post was the first thing that I read this morning — great way to start the year. Seth’s book The Icarus Deception sounds most inspiring — I’d love to have a copy (top choice!). Turning Pro sounds interesting as well.

Thanks also for offering your time/expertise. I’d love your advice on a travel/documentary project that I am planning. Going to comb through your blog posts now…see what you’ve already shared and get back to you by the 3rd.

    Thanks, Chris!

  • Monica Calderon says:

Happy New Year to all! Love to win something in this new year 🙂

  • Lisa says:

    Hi Libby!! (and Chris, too!),

I love reading Seth-isms when I need to get motivated to ‘ship’ (as Seth so aptly puts it)! I saw that Seth was releasing that behemoth and would love to have my hands on that baby! Same for The Icarus Deception (love Seth, Love Seth, L-O-V-E Seth)! I’m very intrigued by Dan Pink’s “To Sell Is Human” – sounds like a timely book for me to get my hands on and my mind around. Very curious about Wisdom Meets Passion – I see that it was co-authored by Dan Miller. As a fellow Tennesseean with Dan – I enjoy his work, his 48 Days program and his overall coaching and mentorship help that he offers!

Have a terrific New Year, Chris! Here’s to Norway!!!

  • keerti says:

How does it feel, being so close to finishing your list of countries to visit? It’s pretty hard for me to imagine being to that many places, but it’s been really inspiring nonetheless. I’d love to have a copy of any of your books by the way.

  • Nelson says:

I was fortunate enough to discover both your blog and the $100 Dollar Startup in 2012. After over 40 years in the traditional workplace, I am headed toward semi-retirement in 2013 and looking to practice an AONC lifestyle in this next chapter of my life. I am encouraging my son, a recent college graduate, to start his post college life based on the AONC philosophy. Pleas enter me in the drawing . All the best to you for 2013.

  • Jenny says:

Hi Chris, Tuvalu looks pretty. I bet the Internet there is just as good as my service off the grid in rural Missouri. I would love to read either Seth or Dan’s book. I’ve started following blogs this year, especially aonc, and I feel like I’m in a learning phase, similar to what you mentioned in a post about your growth around 2007. I hope to make some of my travel, art, and writing ideas a reality in 2013. If I’m brave enough I will send you an email. My biggest obstacle is my complete lack of the entrepreneurial mindset, but I think I’m getting there.

  • deniz says:

One country left after Tuvalu, awesome!
    Love the book assistant 🙂

  • Jen says:

New to AONC this year and I absolutely love your posts! Coming to WDS this July and I’m very very excited! I’m particularly interested in the book Turning Pro – as I am at that stage in my life; transitioning from Master’s Degree recipient to Professional Musician/Teacher/Performer. Love to travel and feel Italy calling my name this year, too…. want to try some of your travel hack ideas from a Cdn perspective… so much awesomeness in this world to experience/share/live – Woo hoo bring on 2013!

  • Cher Cabula says:

Whoa 300+ responses already. I do hope lady luck shines down on me. These books will be great to add to my 2013 Goodreads reading challenge and to review on my blog as well. Happy New Year to everyone! 🙂

  • Suzie Chadwick says:

    Hi Chris,
    Happy New year!

I would love any and all of these books! Seth is inspiring and I can imagine how big behemouth would be! I love Dan’s thought leadership on motivation and purpose in the work place and would love to get into some of your books as well! Great giveaway!
    Thanks
    Suzie

  • Sean says:

I’d love the Behemoth please! Heck, if you’re endorsing the other books and think they’re good, I trust your judgement and would openly accept and read them!

Best of luck to you for the year ahead.

  • Dotan Negrin says:

You, Seth, and Dan are changing the way we see the world and opening up doors for all people.

  • Chris Scott says:

I’d love to win one of these books.

  • Veena says:

Chris, your generosity is so amazing. When I attended the first World Domination Summit and met you in person, your kindness and empathy was so palpable. I’m so glad to have had that opportunity.
I’m at a career crossroads and would certainly enjoy receiving any of the books, but especially Seth Godin’s, “The Icarus Deception.” I have admired Seth, as well, and receive his daily blog posts…they always provide a new way of looking at things.
Wishing you, Jolie, and Libby another amazing year. Congratulations on the near-completion of your quest to visit the entire globe!

  • Will Hsiung says:

Started reading Daniel Pink’s new book, would like to get Seth Godin’s new book.

Happy New Year Chris and best of luck with your travels and pursuits!

  • Sara S says:

CHRIS! Happy Travels! Happy New Year!

I of course would love to win the copy of Seth’s book, but I read his blog often, and book mark my favorite ones to find them when I need inspiration. Should I not win, I still feel like I’m winning because of his willingness to share and be open.

Second, I want to thank you for everything you’ve done for me, without realizing it, since I found your blog that month when I couldn’t stop crying in 2009. You’ve helped shape and shift my life in ways I’m not sure I can even explain. Attending the Summit in July of 2012 was just the icing on the cupcake. THANK YOU.

I’m not asking for anything, really, just saying thank you. Can’t wait to see where 2013 takes you, and me.

    All the best,

Enjoyed Dan Pink’s Drive and Steven Pressfield’s The War of Art, so count me in for either To Sell is Human or Turning Pro!

The Behemoth would also be great- not only for content but also for weightlifting.

  • John says:

Would love to win the free books. Would love it even more if Doncy won.
    Enjoy your trip!

  • Ann Becker-Schutte says:

    Thank you for the chance!

  • Brandy says:

Whoop whoop for Tuvalu! Wisdom Meets Passion sounds like an interesting read! I have often felt sandwiched between the two. Over the last decade, I have embraced one or the other at various points but have yet to strike that delicate balance.

  • Charlie Costello says:

Chris – safe travels and thanks for the inspiration too.

Also, please add me to the list for the freebies, specifically, Seth’s new book: How High Can You Fly

    Have a great 2013!

  • Austin White says:

Thanks Chris for the great work – the $100 Startup was fantastic and was gifted to many friends this year. Looking forward to your writing in 2013

  • Asher Black says:

Your guides are the standard in epublishing now. I’m convinced you started the revolution in infographics. Like Tesla, tho, you probably won’t get all the credit you deserve.

  • Phileas Fogg says:

Just remember, as your penultimate stop nears you to the end of your journey, so too does it bring you ever closer to the new adventure in your life. Best wishes and easy travels.

  • Shazia says:

Hi Chris! I’m commenting to win ANY of your work, or Seth’s or Dan’s. Also, since you seem to have some time while in Tuvalu, would you check out my website? I’ve launched my own consulting business today! I used your $100Startup as the blueprint. Thanks for sharing what you do the way you do. I look forward to staying in touch with you in 2013! Happy New Year!

  • Erin Clemons says:

    Hi Chris,

I’ve been an avid AONC follower for a few years now and have always wistfully yearned to join the ranks of those of you who live unconventional, remarkable lives. However, the pressure to have a “responsible” career to pay the bills, fear and excuses have always taken precedent. It wasn’t until this past year (I’m 27) that I finally began to understand that I CAN live unconventionally and remarkably…that it is possible to live out my passions (traveling, writing, painting) and contribute my own unique fingerprint. The catch is I have to actively work towards my goals and utilize the right tools to get there, and up until the last year or so I wasn’t ready to fully dive in.

Well, I’m ready now. I believe that life shows up when we do. So, I’ve made a commitment to hold myself accountable in striving towards living out my passions. That said, I an actively pursuing any insights I can get my hands on, and I would absolutely love to be considered as for one of the books you’re giving away. As always, I’ll keep reading and soaking in the wisdom your site provides.

    Thank you for the inspiration!

    Best,

    Erin

  • Mark says:

Hi Chris – I’ve got a favor to ask. PLEASE keep doing what you’re doing and allow us to follow along. It’s so refreshing to see your authenticity. It’s a delight to see somebody thriving by being a decent human being.

I’m not a big traveler, but I’ve enjoyed you sharing your journey. I look forward to you reaching your goal this year and am excited to see what else you have concocted.

Thanks for the opportunity to win books by a couple of my favorite authors.

  • rick says:

Happy New Year, Chris! Thanks for the annual report idea. I am currently studying your 279 days e-book, and would love to win any of the books pictured (or Libby…too bad she’s not included).

  • Eric Oleson says:

Hey Chris. I’ll admit it, I like winning books. But books or not, I was first inspired by your Annual Review guide in December, 2011. Since then I’ve done two reviews and two sets of year goals including one that I am turning into a blog (book?). Thanks for the example and the inspiration.

  • Morgan says:

I would LOVE to win something!

  • Tiffiney Lozano says:

LOVED the Art of Non-Conformity and $100 SUP! Thank you for your energy–it’s lighting my fire once again too. I’ve bought a few of your books, but would love to have the Building an Empire or the Art + Money e-book.
More of us out there being awesome encourages others to go out there and do the same! Thank you!!!!

  • Greg Keith says:

Happy New Year, Chris! Thanks to you for your inspirational work, thoughts, and books – I found The $100 Startup to be a great source of actionable ideas and really liked the case-study format. I even popped for a ticket to WDS 2013 – however, out of the magic of serendipity, 4 RTW tickets have descended into our lives, and we will be on a 2-month global odyssey all next summer with two young kids…if this trip can open their eyes to the world’s riches, in even a fraction of the way your writings have exposed them to all of us as your readers, I’ll be grateful.

  • Emily Smith says:

Ohhh, Seth Godin’s book looks fantastic. Love the graphic and “how high will you fly”. This post is phenomenal- overwhelming gratitude for an ambigous, well-lived life. It can be challenging and uncomfortable, but we live life out of our comfort zones and that is where we grow and push ourselves the most! Would love to win a copy of one of these books and here is to a meaningful, full, well-traveled 2013!

    ~Emily Smith

  • Sherrilynn Bair says:

    Hoping to win!

  • Shannon says:

Seth’s books sound great, and I’d love to have a chance to win them. Of course I’d also really like to win a copy of The Art of Non-Conformity. But, if it was an option, the thing I’d really, really love, would be The “I Want It All!” Kit.

Happy New Year Chris! Safe travels.

  • Sherrilynn Bair says:

I’d love to win any of these titles, especially The
    World’s Strongest Librarian!

  • Carol says:

Will comment for books! Your posts are interesting to read, Chris, and I’m sure you are highlighting thought-provoking books. Here’s to new ventures in 2013

I am an independent contractor (real estate agent). Rolling out some new marketing stuff & branding this year so re- reading the launch chapter in $100 Start Up!

  • Steven says:

I want to win them all! Any thoughts on travel consolidators and which is the best one?

  • Sydney says:

I would be happy with any of these books but I am particularly interested in To Sell is Human.

    Thanks and congrats on Tuvalu.

  • Theresa says:

    I love winning things!

  • Darla Mathews says:

I have no shame….I’m entering for any or all of the books. Would especially LOVE the “behemoth” but am a bibliophile fanatic and would be thrilled with any of them. Also, glad I came across your website…nice to know that there is someone out there living the dream! 🙂

  • Craig Shank says:

I’d love to win those books! I’ve started a new short-form radio program with my co-producer and we’re in the process of trying to build an audience and get sponsors, and have our listeners support the show. It’s a show about the role of sound in art, science, culture, history, and everyday life.

    Happy new year!

  • Jillian Bremer says:

Seth Godin is a game changer in my world. I would love to win a copy of The Icarus Deception. I’m participating in the Icarus meet-up session tomorrow evening in San Francisco. Hope to meet lots of cool peeps there!

  • Claudia W. Hess says:

    Dear Chris
Wow!!! your LAST country. What an achievement. While many of us armchair travel with you, I’m pretty sure we’d love to do even half of what you are able to do.

I can’t remember who I came across first- you or Dan Pink, but great minds think alike! Thanks for your inspirational life – and sharing it with us!

  • Clayton Elliott says:

    Hey Chris!

Please put my name in the hat for the book draw. I love anything Seth or Dan puts out and would love to get my hands on either of those books.

Great wrap up post for the year as well. That’s really awesome you’re only one country away from visiting all of them! You’ve definitely inspired me to add “visit every country” to my bucket list as well. For now, I’m setting a rough 7-10 year timeline for getting it done and am already 14/193. I’ve made learning how to travel hack for free/cheap flights one of my top goals for 2013 and beyond. Looking forward to joining the cartel soon!

I’ve been in Brazil for the last 4 weeks with my partner in crime/life/work visiting her family and getting to know her roots. I fell madly in love with Camila and am falling madly in love with her country now too. We just rang in the new year on a beautiful beach outside of Florianopolos and could not be more grateful for my amazing experiences so far. We’re here for 2 more weeks, then back to Toronto to pick up work and begin planning our next escape.

Have an amazing time in Tuvalu e Feliz Ano Novo do Brasil!

  • Riaan says:

Looks like scuba diving on Tuvalu would be spectacular 🙂

I’d love to start the new year with one of these books.

  • Chris says:

Generosity is a great way to begin 2013. Best to you as a giver and to whoever receives the giveaway – you’re a lucky dog!

  • Larry says:

Chris, thanks a bunch for this great wrap-up and all the best in Tuvalu!
I just finished my first year-end review and goal setting session – based on the process you outlined in 2009. I’d never done it before and it was a super experience. I feel like, for the very first time I’ve hit the ground running in the New Year. I’ve got my goals mapped out, I’m excited about prospects for the year to come and my gut check says, yes, it is me.
I should also mention that I shared my “what went well in 2012” review with my wife and it turned into a beautiful heartfelt exchange. Very much a “what went well” moment itself!
I’m sure you don’t imagine all the secondary effects of what you do when you’re writing or putting the books together, but I assure you they happen. And they’re very positive.
I was out for your $100 Start-up tour in Calgary and I’m very appreciative of the time you took away from your loved ones to help us out, to come say hi.
It was great to see you and your work has made an enormous difference in my life.
Thanks for all the work you do.
I hope you find your next quest as fulfilling as the one you’re just ending.
    All the best.

    Larry

  • Connie says:

Enjoy reading your blog! Would love to win the books! Thanks for the chance!

  • Hanif Rusdian says:

    Thanks for the books recommendation!!

  • Lana says:

Hi Chris, I’d love to win a book from you. Also, I’ve got the $100 Startup in my queue TBR, but I lost AONC in a move in August and haven’t been able to replace it. I love that book and would love to have it again! Blessings and safe travels!

  • Keri Kettle says:

I read your offer of business advice today and my heart leaped with excitement – I am currently looking for direction to my efforts to gain exposure for my website in 2013. My market is the subset of folks that are going through, or went through, a divorce and want to use that as an opportunity for personal growth instead of an opportunity for destruction, anger, etc. I also have a significant number of readers that are happily partnered but find the information I’ve learned as a divorce mediator useful for improving their communication and relationship skills. My “question” is – I’m having a bit of trouble finding my people. Traditional divorce forums and chats do not appear to attract the type of people that I want to work with. I know they are out there but just don’t know where in the huge online world to find them. Any thoughts?

Thank you for being such a generous and brave soul,

    Keri

  • Ruby E says:

would love a chance to win one 🙂
    many thanks!

  • Indi says:

    Hey Chris,

I am currently reading $100 Startup and own The Art of Non Conformity, I love them both…..you are very inspirational which is getting my brain and priorities into gear. Thank you.

    Indi

  • Ray says:

    Hi Chris,

I just discovered your blog a couple of days ago via Cal Newport’s Study Hacks and am so glad I did.

I would really appreciate getting the opportunity to read/watch Mike Rohde’s Sketchnote Handbook — I used to do a lot of visual art and after I stepped into the performing arts world my visual art intuition kind of got put on the backburner. That or the Impact Equation — I’m co-heading the Center for Race Relations at my university and revamping the ways it carries out its mission of promoting justice and understanding, and I wonder how I can be a part of making a real change in campus culture rather than just “making noise.”

Thanks so much for your generosity and care for all of us and best wishes in 2013.

  • Jane Manthorpe says:

Wow! thanks Chris for a chance to win and your generosity
Behemouth! thats a great name and coming from Seth Godwin its sure to huge resource and I sure would love to win this and learn from him.
The Icarus Deception I have read up on and was thinking of buying this, its one my wish list at Amazon 🙂
Anyway Chris, I am grateful for the chance to win and happy new year to you and hope its just as successful as this one has been for you.
It feels a special year 2013, a lucky year for all

  • Rich says:

Godin is a genius. You’re right there with him and Pink. Would love a book, and $100 bucks for a start-up! 😉

  • teresa says:

I like the photo of libby the cat 🙂

  • Steve Echeverria says:

Hi Chris, hope you enjoy Tuvalu! I got hooked on Godin thanks to you, and can’t thank you enough. I would love to win the behemouth. And of the other books, the “impact equation” would get my year started off right.

P.S. I’m at 30 countries right now, so watch out, I’m catching up : )

  • Kristen says:

Oooh. Books, how I love them so. Surprisingly, I haven’t read any of those books in your stack – what a shame.

Hope you’re enjoying the second to last country in your quest. What an amazing feat.

All the best to you in 2013 – live it up in Norway! 🙂

  • Roy says:

    Hi Chris,

I’ve been following your blog and while I do want to win your books, I want to express my gratitude for the great and larger-than-life attitude that’s documented for all to read. You’re a truly great inspiration that I aspire towards!

    Xx
    Roy

  • Mihir Bhanot says:

Thanks for the giveaway Chris! Fun start to the year.

I’d love to get any of the books.. but the Librarian one sounds especially different and interesting..

  • Zack says:

Hello, Chris! I must admit all of those books look interesting to me. But, I would much rather have any one of your Empire Building Kits. I’m launching a blog this month and I think your program is what I really need to study right now.

You said ask for anything, so this is me asking. I hope you have safe and fun travels.

    Zack

  • Denny says:

Hi Chris, I’d love to get my hands on those books. Count me in (and ship them to China on Seth please : )). Also, I’d love to hear an update from you on 279 Days. Do you think it is still relevant? Is there anything you would do different if you were starting in 2013?

  • Bud Hennekes says:

    So excited for you Chris.

Seriously considering flying out to Norway to see you finish.

You’ve been a huge inspiration and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  • Elizabeth says:

Hey Chris, Happy New Year! Just started reading your book a couple days ago and so far LOVE the book. Then I decided to check out your website! You had me at non-comformity. You’ve inspired me and helped me reconnect to my passions. I would love to be entered to win any of the books. 🙂 Thanks for doing what you do and inspiring others to do what they wanna (be) do(ing)! Elizabeth

  • Andrew Simms says:

Thanks, Chris & Seth for your generosity.
I’d love a copy of the behemoth collection.
No better way to catch up on Seth’s pearls that my friends get but I’ve deprived myself of in recent times.
Happy penulti-mating. (Or is that something else entirely?) 🙂

  • Rupa Shetty says:

Chris, I was fortunate enough to hear you speak here in Bangalore and the autographed copy of the 100$ startup is my most prized possession right now! I hope 2013 is the year I get out of the rut my life is currently in! I would love to read Seth Godin’s Icarus Deception.
Happy New Year to you and Jolie!

  • Helga says:

Imagine everyone living remarkably, each in their own unique way. Then “unconventional” would become conventional.

I have followed your blog for about 2 years. Its value was immediately evident. You have been an inspiration, especially in your original focus of giving without demanding profit, knowing that eventually worthwhile rewards will always come back around to those who focus on providing solutions to others. Then when I purchased some of your products, I was not surprised find you “over delivered”.

I have found your year end analysis tool very valuable in helping me focus on improving my actions toward my passion. My joy is promoting creativity, self-confidence, and courage to live authentic lives in the aspiring artists I teach.

Yes, I would very much love receiving any of the gifts you are offering. I am certain ANY of them would help provide another path toward growth and improvement.

    Happy, positive energy-filled 2013!

Thank you so much for your fine example and inspiration.

    Helga

  • Ronald G Lancaster says:

I’m regularly appreciative of the emails from ANC. Success is a team sport, I’ve learned. Thanks for being part of TEAM RON! 🙂
I’d welcome winning a book or books by all means!
Thankfully, 2012 I added a 2nd business to my pursuits and had a part time job that I ended after a year of service, amazed how many things a person can do even while maintaining a 12 year venture in a massage practice.
Ideas from ANC always help me.
    Have a magnificent 2013!

  • Tara says:

Thank you Chris! Would love to read the The Icarus Deception!

  • Andrew F. Martz says:

Congratulations Chris. You are almost there. I admire what you have achieved so far, and look forward to many more achievements to come, as well as your next adventures.

    Happy New Year!

    Andrew

P.S. Nice use of the word “penultimate!” 🙂

  • Dipo says:

I have learnt so so much reading your blog. Thanks for the great work.

And of course, I’m looking forward to winning…..

  • Fe says:

I would be absolutely happy to receive any one of these books for a brand new year

  • Stephanie says:

Earlier this year, I was fortunate and surprised to receive a copy of The $100 Startup in the mail from a life design book fairy 🙂 It was a catalyst for me to cease spinning my wheels, waiting to live my life and start making some leaps at the edge of my comfort zone. So I gave notice at my job with only a siren song in my heart that keeps increasing in volume the more I listen to it. And I’m hoping to make movies documenting all the splendid wonders this world and life has to offer. So thank you Chris. Your power of one has affected me in a tremendously positive way and I hope to pay it forward.

  • Antony Caraffa says:

Good luck achieving the goal of visiting every country. Very inspirational stuff.

  • James says:

Hi Chris. Congratulations on nearly completing your country-visiting project! I would be interested to hear your feelings about it, looking back. Would you recommend short visits to every country to others? If so, are there particular things they should do once they are there? Are there countries to which you intend to go back, perhaps for longer, so as to get to know better? Are you planning exploration of a different sort for the future?
I would be very interested in reading the behemoth and/or one of the other books you refer to.
Best wishes for the new year, and I hope the trip to Tuvalu is restful as well as interesting/different.
    James

  • Phillip says:

Chris, I would love to be in the running for any of the giveaways. I don’t need any personal advice at the moment, but you were the largest inspiration for me to quit my 9-5 and strike out on my own. It’s been 364 days since I did that, and I can’t wait for the next year – best decision I ever made. Thanks Chris, enjoy your travels!

  • Philipp says:

Thx for inspiring me every day anew! I loved the $100 Startup – my goal for 2013 is to create a $100 business and to start living my dream life. Needless to say that I would appreciate it to win one of the books.

  • Rachit says:

Chris, Would love to read any one of the recommended books. I have been following your posts for a while, and have been impressed by the work you are doing. Unfortunately, I could not attend your talk in Delhi.
Wish you a Happy New Year!

  • Robyn says:

Thank you for your inspiration and living a non-conformist life!! I am currently reading $100 start-up to help me start a business before I commence a RTW trip with no end date in mind!

  • Brian G says:

I’d love some new reading material to kick off the year!

  • Matt says:

    Hi Chris,

Happy New Year! Enjoy Tuvalu. Keep up the inspiration and writing!

    Cheers

  • Tory says:

Hi, I’m going to throw my hat in for a book. Also, I have 2 requests (for you to pick one from [or both 🙂 ]).
    1) I’d like the “I want it all” kit, because it has it “all” 🙂 I am working on my painting and business and selling my art and furthering my travels.

2)Refer me to someone that I could ask about being a mentor for the above things.

    Thanks.

  • Chip Thomas says:

I really enjoy Seth Godin’s work, but they all sound like great reads. Happy New Year!

  • Kellie says:

Commenting for books, but also to thank you for the posts–a regular prod to keep moving, even though my nonconformist business is up and running. I expect 2013 to be a what-next year. May it bring you what you wish for, and also what you need!

  • Amanda says:

Love to get my hands on those books! They seem like great reads 🙂

    Thanks!!!

  • Juli says:

Help support the number 13 and thus the year 2013 as lucky not unlucky by winning Daniel’s book!

  • Crystal says:

    Count me in!

  • Monica Laverne says:

Hi Chris, I’m new to AONC, like last week new. I’ve been reading Seth’s book and listening to his recent podcast. Over the last few years I have been planning my breakaway, my dream job. Hard core planning. I’ve researched, trained, researched more and finally got my business plan together only to be turned down by 6 banks. But it hasn’t stopped me. I’ve come up with Plan C (Plan B was placed in action in October). I was literally searching on the internet how to start a business with other than normal business hours, and how I can work my paying job into it, when I came across your site. Perfect! I ordered your books and received 1 Monday, still waiting on $100 Startup. I talked with my boss about cutting back my hours on Friday and now I am a renewed soul, thanks to your inspiration. The past long holiday weekend has reenergized me and I can’t wait to conquer to world! Keep up the great work!

  • Davis John Abraham says:

Chris, Would love to read some of the recommended books. I enjoy reading your updates and words of wisdom each week. All the best – and onto the final few nations!

    Yonkers, NY

  • Kristine says:

I love your contribution to the world. I am a late starter, being 63 and moving forward with my message now, love the vitality of you and your tribe. I recommend your site all the time. I know everyone has an entrepreneur within and you are so inspiring and give such great tips for bringing out that quality in the individual. Hope to meet you in Oregon some day soon.

  • Maisie says:

Chris Guillebeau… you are my hero… a rockstar in our world of dreamers! Any gift from you would be wonderful. If you REALLY wanted to make my day, how about a ticket to the WDS? It never hurts to ask, right? Mucho love from Bend, Oregon!

  • Lauren says:

I’d love to read any of these materials – I can’t thank you enough for your inspiration – you (and Seth especially) demonstrate that if you have the courage to try to pursue your art, you might surprise yourself with what you can do.

  • Kevin Siedenburg says:

Just read these new posts, along with the $100 Startup while backpacking 4 countries in Central America. Here’s to a healthy and happy 2013 for everyone.

  • Christa says:

Just discovered your books and AONC in the last couple months and am so grateful for the inspiration. Would love any more inspiration in book form, and if I win the bohemoth I will save you the postage and pick it up in person next time you are back in the City of Roses!

  • Karen says:

Thank you for your inspiration in 2012; I just returned from three months in Central America because of it. I would absolutely love your Build An Empire guide. I promised myself I would get it, because I want to follow the 365 day plan this year. If you gifted it to me, would I still be able to be part of your “Small Army”? Thanks for all you do!

  • Paul says:

Happy and safe travels Chris (and the rest of the world)!
Welcome to the new year… the year to somehow inject “penultimate” into a conversation.
Best wishes to all for clean water, food, shelter, compassion and books!

  • Jon Norris says:

Chris, I’m a full-time artist/craftsman who builds musical instruments for a living. After a layoff 2 years ago, I decided to turn my hobby into a business (partly thanks to your inspiration). Things are going ok so far, but they could definitely be better as I’ve become quite familiar with the term “starving artist”. That said, whichever of your products that you think would be the best boost for my business would be a huge help. I’ve checked out the Art & Money guide, but I’m not sure it really fits me as it sounds much more targeted to fine artists. I certainly wouldn’t complain about getting a copy of your Empire Building Kit if you think that’s better suited to me. I’d really love to see my business take off in this new year, so I’ll promise to follow all the steps you suggest and volunteer as a future case study for you. In fact, if you’d like one of my instruments, I’d be happy to trade. Thanks!

  • Tina says:

Please put my name in for the Behemoth. While I’m asking for what I want, I’d love the Empire Builder Kit for $45. Would you consider this reduced price?

  • Tina says:

P.S. Penultimate is my very favorite word.

  • Monica says:

I would love to win one of the books. Thank you fir “keeping it real”.
    All the best for 2013.

  • Gail says:

Chris – Not angling for a give-away, but do want to thank you for what you are doing. You are an inspiration sorely needed today, encouraging people to choose lives of freedom, integrity and joy. You clearly lift many to understand what’s most essential in their lives. Thanks for being you and living your life with curiosity, zest and arms open wide. Happy 2013!

  • Jim says:

Happy New Year and thank you for the list of must reads.

  • Debra says:

    Happy New Year, Chris!

    I too am commenting:

    1) To thank you for the wonderful wisdom you have imparted in the past year. I loved both the Art of Nonconformity and the $100 start-up. These books were instrumental to showing me real life examples about how it is possible to make a living and do what you want–the ultimate work/life balance.

2)To win books, PARTICULARLY, Turning Pro. Because Stephen Pressfield is the man, so inspiring! (but I really will except the others too. I devour this kind of literature!)

    3) Lastly, to ask you to come to Houston, TX. I totally missed you on your last book tour and think it would be great if you came again.

Thanks and keep up the good work. Always looking forward to your next project!

    Debra

  • Susan Colket says:

    Chris,
Thank you for your work; for being an inspiration.
I find the spirit of generosity and quality throughout your writing.
Thank you for modeling these qualities.
Congratulations on reaching Tuvalu, the penultimate country.

Is that Steven Pressfield’s new book I see in the stack? His book The War of Art is one of my go-to books – an excellent companion to The $100 Startup. Thanks for the inspiration. Best wishes in 2013!

  • Leslie says:

I’d love to have any of the books!

Also, I could use some help with managing travel for groups of families with fairly young children. Know anyone who’s doing this? Any resources or sites I should check out. Thanks in advance for any hints you can give me!

  • Annika says:

I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and have never commented. I am commenting now because I want to win all the books, of course, but also because I wanted to thank you for what you do. It is most appreciated and I hope you keep it up!

Thanks Chris. My only request from you — just keep doing what you do! You’re in inspiration to us all. Would love to be entered to win a book.

I’m attending Seth’s Icarus Session in Cleveland, OH tonight. There are meetups all over the globe. Definitely encourage everyone to go to your local meetup!

    Hi Chris,

Happy New Year! I’m always amazed at how generous you are in your work. I’m using many of the tools you have graciously shared through your blog, including the annual review process! You are a great inspiration and I hope to replicate such generosity in my own work.

    Best wishes,

  • Michelle says:

    Hi Chris,
Thanks, Happy New Year, and Congratulations on nearing the end of your quest.
I have “The $100 Start Up,” and have used your information to help get the word out about my new business. I’d really appreciate it if you check out the site, and share your input with me about moving forward and whatever else might come to mind. The website is giveandthrive.com The premise is to work with smaller non-profit groups and donate a percentage of sales of customized items directly to them.
I’ve learned a lot so far, and am open to help.
I’m registered for the WDS in July, and am looking forward to it!
    Thanks again.

  • nate says:

    Chris,

Wisdom Meets Passion would be my pick. Thanks for all the awesome material you put out each week. Sparking positive change!

  • Bree says:

I doubt I’ll win a book with over 500 comments, but that’s okay. Wanted to thank you again for you continued inspiration to all of us; many times you are to us like Seth is to you.
Again, I doubt you’ll see this because of the 500 comments, but I am curious to see what travel advice you could give me. I desperately want to see family on the West Coast, but I live in the Midwest and am unemployed, trying to start my own freelance writing business. Any discounts I run across don’t seem to apply to me. Frustrating! Anyway, if you see this please send me some of that sage travel instruction. Thanks!

  • Michelle Bernardo says:

Hello. I would love to learn from travel experts like you and your friends. A good book is always a treat!!! 😀

Too bad I’m 500km away and only returning Friday… I’d love winning one of the book you’re giving away and am glad even if I don’t as I got the $100 startup for Christmas.

  • JOAN says:

Happy New Year, Chris! Thank you, as always, for your generous giveaway.

Our review was a bit shorter, but still made us feel purposeful and grateful. We spent the first day of 2013 re-living the moments that brought us joy in 2012, filling our bellies with prosperity symbols and listing our intentions and goals for this year.

Now it’s all about execution, and these books sound like inspiration to keep us on track. I’m already an avid reader of Seth Godin and will check out Dan Pink. Thanks again!

  • Mona says:

Thank you Chris…a happy belated new year to you…thank you for all your tips and for inspiring us all the time…I would love to be entered in the drawing for the behemoth and or the other books…best to you

    Hey Chris,
Great holiday party! It was a pleasure meeting you
And thank you for the reading list and inspiration.
Have a safe trip and put my name in the hat for the behemoth 🙂

  • Kaitlin says:

Happy New Year! I’ll won’t put my name in the hat for any of these books as there are plenty of folks in line, but I will say that would really love a copy of your Become a Frequent Flyer Master ebook. Thanks for the inspiring work you do, and congratulations on having visited 193 of 193 countries! How exciting!

  • Jason says:

I’d be happy with the Behemoth or any other book as well.

  • Kaitlin says:

    Excuse my typo… 192 of 193! Enjoy!

  • Jeremy says:

Chris, your generosity–once again!–amazes. I have been looking at your “How to Publish Your Book” package for a while. I know I have a book in me clawing to get out, and it’s beginning to hurt. But the closer I get to making the project concrete, the blurrier it gets. And at present, having been unemployed since June, other priorities are drawing down the bank account. I’m keeping the fires burning on the side, but it is more and more undirected as job-hunting gets more and more desperate.

Regardless, please do keep doing what you’re doing. I first ran into your blog in 2008, and I am so glad (and fortunate) to see the penultimate steps of your magnum opus journey!

  • Chea says:

Chris, you’ve been such an inspiration to me, and as I hope you know, to so many. Congratulations on your incredible accomplishments and Happy New Year!

Thank you for all you do and you lovely generosity. Free books! But beyond that, as a still “struggling”, no, scratch that, journeying artist, your insights and adventures never cease to inspire.

I can hardly wait to see what you’ll do next!
All the Best to you and Yours!

  • Alex says:

I’d love to be entered in the book giveaway! I’ve really enjoyed being an AONC subscriber and am always on the lookout for inspiring new reading material!

    -Andrew

  • Tiffany says:

    I hope I win!

  • Fran says:

I’d like a book. I like books, I’m a librarian. (Anybody who thinks that sentence makes sense doesn’t know what librarians do in the 2nd decade of the 21st century.) Thank you. I’m not starting up but there are good things to learn.

  • Dave Quinn says:

You have inspired me to start my own business. I have been taking pictures for ever and wondering what to do with them. Well, i’m selling them. Hopefully with a little help from you, Seth and Mr. Pink I will be successful in my new adventure. Thanks for sharing your post and keeping me inspired. Happy New Year!

I would love to win some (all of them) books 🙂 Thanks for the uplifting posts, I hope to travel the world someday also. Happy New Year 🙂

  • Andrew Brady says:

    Chris-

I’m blown away by your generosity. I have been following your blog for a few years now and the release of the $100 Startup was one of many stars that aligned in late May that led to me leaving my job to follow my passions as an entrepreneur. I’m now about 6 months in and though I have an abundance of ideas, I’m trying to get focused in 2013 to create a sustainable revenue stream. By this point, I’m sure the books have been claimed (though I’ve already pre-ordered The Icarus Deception and seen I’m Fine, Thanks – I think on your recommendation?). I am intrigued by Wisdom Meets Passion and The Impact Equation, but what I think could be the most powerful kickstarter for me is The Empire Building Kit. I think I could really benefit from the daily discipline.

This post immediately brought to mind the Zig Ziglar quote: “You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” I sincerely hope that this tremendous act of generosity to your readers brings you everything you want in 2013 (and more). I also remain excited about hopefully nailing down a date with you and Michelle to bring you to Rochester! and seeing you at WDS2013!

  • Lewaletzko says:

And a happy new year to you! I’ve loved reading about your travels and your ideas encourage me to think differently about my life.

  • Belal says:

Hey Chris! Would love to have a chance to win the Sketchbook handbook, sounds very interesting!

I’m starting to believe that anything is possible. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Bea says:

Thanks for all you do. Happy New Year!

  • Vianca says:

Thank you so much for inspiring me every week to find my purpose and follow through. I wouldn’t mind winning either book, or even the behemoth collection!

Just a question. We all imagine you to be this one-stop source of motivation and inspiring integrity. What do you do when you’re just not feeling up to it? Lazy, even? If that EVER happens to you, I’d love to hear the cure. Maybe this is a bit too personal not to email, but my family is not exactly the non-conformist type, and “off-time” is used to lazy around, drink, and watch sitcom marathons. It’s no excuse, but I find it very difficult to not do what I’ve been raised to know my whole life. Basically, how do I get my ass up for good, and make it so “work-time”, and “play-time meld into one? Thank you so much for everything so far. This is a shoutout to all the (seemingly) inherently “lazy” people out there (though I doubt there are any on this blog!)

  • Amber says:

I would love to win some books. 🙂

Thanks for sharing so much in 2012. A happy 2013 to everyone!

And on to Norway! Best wishes, Bob

  • Dawn says:

I stumbled upon your website a while back and travel vicariously through your quest. I did quite a bit of traveling (and living) in N. America, Central America, Europe and Asia until 2 little boys slowed me down a bit. Life is looking up, however, as I just got their passports stamped for the first time this summer when we went to Ecuador for 5 weeks! Traveling again!! 2013 is upon us and if you think any of the books you have available would be a good fit for an educator mom with 2 boys and a passion for travel and doing good in the world, I would be THRILLED to win (it could be seen as a sign of good luck in the new year!) Thanks, and congrats on your penultimate trip – I am VERY jealous! Happy New Year!

  • Melissa Jones says:

Yes, please! Sign me up! Seth Godin is always a favorite. Thank you for extending your offer to help. You are always so inspirational. Thanks for being you and sharing it with all of us. I wish I could think of something to help me with but yet I always find that I am better at helping others. So, how can I help you? Cheers to a wonderful 2013! …Hoping for the best!

  • Guylaine says:

Wow, Christmas may come twice this year ! Those books look like they will be inspiring and thrilling, surely an adventure just to get them over here 😉 Enjoy country #192, the best is yet to come !

  • Kori says:

Congratulations Chris on the completion of an incredible goal and journey! What you have done and created continues to impress and inspire me! I’m currently living in Costa Rica after having spent half of last year living in Mexico – testaments to my desire to explore new places, interact with different people, and continue to learn. Thanks for being a fellow world traveler and writer – there can never be too many of us! I hope that in 2013 you continue to ‘contribute radness to the universe,’ (to steal an apt quote)!

  • Rebecca Esther says:

I’m commenting because (1) I’d love to win a book, (2) to say Happy New Year & (3) because I’ve enjoyed reading your blog for a long time now and thought you should know 🙂

  • Poe says:

I am a librarian…not the world’s stronger, but I bet I’m damn close. If I win a book or two, I’ll share with an entire town…imagine the possibilities! Talk about motivation….. 🙂

  • Stuart says:

I would love to win Seth’s new book, but they all sound great.

Thanks for the inspiration and showing how to do it!

  • Adam J says:

Chris, awesome giveaway and I love how you give a shout out to other writers. I already have the Dan Pink book on pre-order (shipped today!), so any of the other titles would be a fantastic prize. Happy 2013 indeed!

Good luck with your final two country destinations and thanks as always for the inspiration! Your blog frequently reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:

“Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to be always part of unanimity.” ~Christopher Morley
