Video Update: Motivations and $32,000

Thanks so much to everyone who is downloading, reading, and sharing feedback about my new manifesto, 279 Days to Overnight Success.

Here’s a new video update where I discuss the motivations behind the document. Why did I publish this now? Why do we do anything?

In my case, I want to a) help people create their own overnight success, and b) expand the network of people who are involved with AONC.

As I say in the video, if you enjoy the report and feel it would be useful to people you know, I’d really appreciate your endorsement. One of the most interesting things about social media is that among the people you interact with, you have far more influence than any stranger.

Feel free to post comments about the video here – I’m aware it’s a work in progress; stick with me and each one will get better. Remember that Gary Vaynerchuk is currently on episode #660, this is episode #2 for me. πŸ™‚

For general comments about the 279 Days report, please continue posting over here.

Thanks, everyone! If I don’t get a chance to check in this weekend, I’ll see you from the road – en route to Haiti.

I came to your website by chance two days ago. I’ve read hundreds of books, e-books and manifestoes over last 4 years. I spend up few hours reading and reading your two books. Amazing work and cleared up alot of garbage in my head that I’ve been struggling with.

Looking forward to more insight. Thanks Chris.

Very good video Chris. And congrats again. It’s good to see your face. I sometimes forget what you look like because your picture isn’t really displayed anywhere on the site and you don’t post many photos, videos, etc from your travels. So it’s good to see what you look like. Keep up the great work and have fun in Haiti. Send me a postcard!

  • Janice Cartier says:

I’m offline for a few days and there you go, changing the world again…cannot wait to read the new manifesto. All best in Haiti… this thing about motivation…that’s huge. Huge. Big smiles for your most deserved success.

  • Casey Shea says:

Like many, I just recently found you through Seth Godin. Really glad I did.

I generally throw the term “domination” around a handful of times a day (often with the word “world” preceding, ha!) glad I’m not alone in this. I’ve come across you and your writings when I needed them most, so just saying thanks!

Have a great and safe trip. I’ll be helping spread the good word!

  • Kathy B says:

I love your writing style. Not being a writer myself, I admire this talent in others. I plan on sharing your manifesto with an aspiring writer I know.
Keep up the great work. I’m a new fan and look forward to delving into your web site and vast array of articles.

    Chris,
Very, very cool of you. I’m looking forward to reading the manifesto this weekend when I have a wee bit of free time from my 3 little children & blog writing. Thanks for sharing your mistakes, successes and lessons with all of us–FREE.

    Enjoy your time in Haiti.

    Heather

  • Chris says:

    Chris,

I appreciate the manifesto even more now – twittering, connecting, answering all your e-mails, writing a book, traveling, writing…

The manifesto is helping both you and us, but it definitely wasn’t a top priority, but you made it.

And the best thing is, you got the same amount of time as us.

    Mad props and respect, man.

  • nic says:

    Thanks Chris
I am new to this whole blogging thing-but been curious for a while. Your writing is clear and easy to read and very informative.
    thanks

    Hi Chris,

I read your manifesto last night and felt like you wrote it just for me and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart! It was perfection in words, ideas, motivations and suggestions. I shall treasure it and I’ve already begun re-reading it and following the links, which also are so wonderfully valuable.

Your advice will be changing my life from this day forward!

You have my very best wishes for your daily success and happiness,

    Marguerita McManus

Your guide definitely got me to this site. Looked at quite a lot of the articles already and your RSS feed is in my Google Reader now (and I subscribe to VERY few sites).

Looking forward to more articles (and videos) in the future. πŸ™‚

    Very inspiring manifesto – Kudos!

I look forward to hearing more from you and I’ll be re-reading the manifesto many times, I think.

  • Zoe says:

It’s so fun to see you on video!

I agree that it’s extremely valuable to step back and take stock of our motivations. We get caught up in doing things that aren’t necessarily in line with our values, and it may not be until we stop and ask ourselves these questions that we realize what’s going on.

  • Vixel says:

Your guide brought me to the site too, I heard about it on Twitter and I’ve added you to my RSS reader now and look forward to being a regular reader. I’ll be passing the link on to my (tiny) readership on Sunday as so far (I’ve read about a third of the way through, and will continue to read after posting this) it’s been really useful to me.

    I’ll definitely be back!

  • Astor Gravelle says:

Set Godin turned me on to this book and I have already found it helpful just 24 pages in as I am linking up to the sites that you have recommended. I am fired up and thinking about my own motivations and becoming clearer about what makes me tick the more I write.
    Thanks again!

  • chris marx says:

Your manifesto gave me renewed inspiration and ideas on how to monetize my blog and strategies for running an online business!

I’ve been paralyzed with the idea that every launch and product has to have sales pages and lots of planning. I love how you’ve set up your products on your blog as blog posts!

I’m just going to start with the fastest solution possible now just to get something done and then refine my products and sales funnel later.

    Thanks Chris!

  • Carolyn Parker says:

    Hi Chris,

Seth sent me, I seem to click on everything he recommends.

I just finished 279 Days. (By the way the design is great and easy to read.) I feel a little spaced by all the great stuff you said and the fab links you wove into the piece. At first I thought, oh no this is for hard core business types, then I saw the art connection and was so excited.

I’ll be rereading it soon – I can’t thank you enough. It’s also nice to see the video after becoming familiar with you through your writing.

Have a nice trip, I look forward to future posts.

    Hello Chris

I came via Seth too. I’m glad I did. I downloaded your pdf and I’ve almost finished it. I have to read it in stages. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. I appreciate your generosity. I have a very successful blog too, and with no advertising. I think I know where you’re coming from.

Congratulations on your success. You deserve it.

  • Wyman says:

    Hi Chris,

Like to hear about your trip to Haiti. My son went a couple of years ago to bid on the American Embassy for his firm. Had a very interesting time. Brought me a local painting with used wood frame that I had to put in the freezer for a week to kill any termites.

Read the great manifesto and passed it on to 8 of my friends who would probably benefit from it. I made a lengthier comment on another site referred to at the end of the manifesto.

  • Marie says:

    Hi Chris,

Thoroughly enjoyed your Manifesto especially learning about your personal story.

    All the very best
    Marie

  • Vicki Zerbee says:

Your video was great as is your writing/sharing.. thanks for what you do to help people like me out there who are writing and lifelong learners πŸ™‚

I will be happy to spread the word.. hope your trip is a safe and enjoyable one!

  • Alan Popely says:

Reading your manifesto was a lightbulb moment. Possibilities of a bespoke life beckon and now I have a lot more thinking and work to do. My value or worth is not directly determined as a result of an organisation granting it to me. It is inherent in me through my experiences.
Might be time to balance the monetization and my 168 hrs each week on the planet. Time to explore. Thanks for helpng me challenge myself

  • Dale Williams says:

Well done Chris, got your manifesto from Seth’s blog. Thanks for the generosity and the wonderful lessons I have been able to learn from your writing.

All the best with the Haiti trip and I support you 100% in your journey as a “non-conformist”.

  • David Parsons says:

Great Video Chris. I found you through Seth’s link and I’m glad I did.

My work is all about human motivations so this video caught my eye.

You clearly stated “I need to make a living” and that’s an accepted fact of life. It’s not hype and it’s not at all offensive. It’s easy to take and it makes you more real and likeable.I like the fact that you don’t have any ads on your site. I don’t have any either. I’m doing what you do. Not the traveling part so much but the soft no-sell part.

For me it may take a little longer than 279 days to get to where I’m going but since I found your site I intend to use your astute observations to speed things along as much as I dare without losing the motivation of truth and benevolence that keeps me comfortable.

  • Pete Wendel says:

Found you via Seth Godin. There is an old Zen saying, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” I’m the student looking to move beyond my website and newsletter (tiny mailing list) to becoming more involved in social networking and, behold, I discover you and “279 Days…”

A very useful guide – plenty to chew on to get me moving ahead for some time – and well written. Both the text and the layout are very ‘reader friendly.”

Thank you very much. I’m on the way!!!!

    Pete Wendel

  • Patrick says:

I just watched your video and read 279 Days. So much to digest. Thank you for taking the time to share your path to success. I will definitely incorporate a lot of what you wrote about in my blog as well. Wonderful suggestions. Thanks again.

  • Sean Bossie says:

Really enjoyed your report Chris…I have been reading business and self help books for years and your guide has become one of my favorite reads. Very inspiring and helped me focus on my own goal and objectives.

Thanks so much Chris! I will be a regular visitor to your blog.

    Best,

    Sean

  • Dhrumil says:

    Big ups brother.

  • Bob Hunt says:

Chris, I was invited by Seth. The thing is I have been following a similar path as you. The blog idea for independent life. You said two years of research on your end. Mine has been longer yet unfocused. On top of it the year you were born I graduated high school. You seem like a great guy. My concern for you is that you have set your goals too low. EG perhaps it would be better to set a goal of the second round of each country. Like a recommended bartender or hostel. Where you can bring kids etc. I just remember Ted Turner saying that he originally had set his goals too low and it had depressed him when he reached them too early too easily.
Your direction is sound and your grasp of this technology makes you a pioneer in both lifestyle and nonconforming way of paying the bills. God speed. HUNT
