Chris,

This doesn't relate to this article at all, but I just had the following thought while reading it.

My question is this: I would love to travel to Africa, but I've never had a single immunization shot and I don't ever want to get one. I'm trying to stay completely drug free! I've never even had a Tylenol or Advil or anything like that. That being said, I know that a lot of countries require specific immunizations and I was wondering if 1) these countries actually check to see if you have the immunizations and 2) if there is any way to get out of having these shots when traveling to such countries.

If you could do a future article on this topic, I would be extremely interested. Thank you!

I thought this was good; blog posts on how to do things are great, but to actually see how you strategize and carry it off is another equally interesting thing. Gives me a good reference point to think about as I start planning.

On another note, if you do end up at the Addis airport, I was there in '04 and it was sparse. But it was the most memorable airport ever- a kind man bought my friend and I dresses because we reminded him of his daughter, there was a princess serving the most amazing hand-ground coffee- all around great experience even though the layover was way too long.

Africa is fantastic; if you end up in Rwanda and want to meet some fantastic people I'd love to connect you. I got to meet my sponsor kid. Best thing ever.

And good luck with the latest leg of your travels!!

I do enjoy reading the details of your trips. Helps me to envision the details of the trips that I am planning for the future...just a few dollars a day, right :)?

Enjoy the trip.

Keep providing the details. I can't afford ANY kind of travel right now, but when I can, I'll know how to plan it. Thanks for the insights.

Have a great time in SE Asia, and give my best to Angkor Wat. While in Thailand, please have some som tam (green papaya salad) for me. As spicy as you can stand. Mmmmm... som tam... it's been too long...

Well done Chris! I was just thinking today that most of my trips are too-well planned and often planned too far in advance. Sometimes I get bored with the idea of them before they even start. (If that makes sense). I think it's exciting to decide last minute to go somewhere and just take off! Have fun.

You don't need to fly to Laos from Cambodia - I was there 4 years ago and the super-highway was just about connnected - what had been a 12 hour trip was then around 4/5 - it would be a lot less than that now. Head north PP and southern Laos is gorgeos -the thousand island area is laid back and beautiful
