Another great article. I didn't know much about monks except those that rely on others to support them. Gives me a whole new perspective and respect. Thanks.

Chris:

What I find remarkably interesting about LaserMonks is that while I was browsing through their e-commerce website my immediate thought was, "I trust them." Isn't that interesting? And I believe that came about because they are genuine Monks. Somehow it's easier to believe Monks are more than likely to give you great customer service, give you good value and make your shopping experience more, well, holy. :)

I don't know if I've heard of this venture before but I'm certainly glad you interviewed the head Friar. What an interesting form of social entrepreneurship!

That's an awesome story. From the business stand point, it is an example of how cultivating a unique identity and meeting a world's need can meet in the middle to create a thriving business. I'm glad it happened to them.

As an lay Episcopalian who had the privledge of holding the postion of Director of Business Affairs for the oldest Anglican/Episcopal monastery in the United States -The Society of Saint John the Evangelist - Cambridge, MA I found your story and mission to be a wonderful blend of religious conviction combined with the practicality of what covering your own operational expeness and philanthropy should represent. The fiscally responsible model which you present is similar to that of the Taize in France. Furthermore I found your website written in such a way that it is practical and inviting; attributes which I think will definetly resonate with adolescents and young adults in a way they can identify. You have my commitment that I will forward your website onto many business owners and organizations wherein I know people who have purchasing influence. Thanks for the creative, earned and thinking outside of the box, way you are approaching things. Hopefully it will be inspirational to other religious communities as well. Don
