I must correct one fact, though, in Jane Straus’ story. Amazon *was* around in 1997. I remember when I first looked at it that year, when I was still working at my old print job, and wondering what this crazy World Wide Web was all about.

FWIW, Wikipedia says Amazon.com first launched in 1995.
