I’m On Facebook, Sort Of…

When 2% of the world’s population joined FaceBook a few years ago, I decided to sit it out because I am secretly a luddite. I still don’t completely understand it, but I know there are lots of people who don’t understand Twitter, so that’s OK. Might as well get on the train and see where it leads, right?

I don’t expect to be fully converted, but I figure if my grandma can get on AOL and learn to send mass email forwards to the whole family, the least I can do is sign up for Facebook. Also, 15% of my traffic and email signups come from over there, so I suppose I should see what people are talking about.

With that in mind and with the help of my great design team over in Asia, I set up an AONC fan page that will republish the site entries. This will also help next year with the book launch, so if you like the site and are on Facebook, check it out:

The Very Long Link I Have to Use Until We Get to 1,000 Fans

Action: I’ve been encouraged by FB experts to clearly explain what you need to do, since there is some confusion about fan pages. To follow my updates there, click the “Become a Fan” button whenever you are logged into your account. I promise not to stalk you or post complaints about healthcare reform on your wall.

My main social networking activity will still be on Twitter, and of course through the AONC newsletter, in-person meetups, and comments here on the site. But if you’re on FaceBook, stop by and congratulate me on learning how to use the internets.

Here I am.

P.S. I don’t have a boss, so thankfully there’s no risk of my using my new Facebook powers to post something like this and then getting fired. (Warning: contains profanity and stupidity.)

P.P.S. Check back tomorrow for a special edition AONC post with the results of our Unconventional Writing Contest. 150 entries, 3 winners… it’s been a tough choice, but I think we’ve finally got it narrowed down.
