If you go as far as to Lund (13 minutes longer on the train from Copenhagen, via Malmö), you can stay at this lovely hostel. I stayed there for a few nights last year, and while slightly claustrophobic, it was a delightful experience.

I am planning to visit Sweden and Denmark later in the year! Your observation on Malmo and the seamless train ride was very useful. Looking forward to being there.

Just stumbled across your page, and i like your project to visit all the countries in the world! i live very close to Malmö, and it is very interesting how you say that it is the most seamless link between two countries. not sure if crossing countries within the EU are that different in general, though?

There are tons of homeless people in Sweden, caused for example by ultra-conservative attitudes on drugs (little treatment for addicts) and cut-backs in mental institutions. (and of course neoliberal politics like everywhere else) the stereotype of the perfect socialdemocratic Sweden is not true now, if it ever was.

People do lock their bikes here, and bikes get stolen anyway. And finally - Malmö is very different from the rest of Sweden, at least to me. There is more diversity. I dont think it is a good place to visit to give a general view of Sweden.

blablablabla. :) Anyway, good luck with visiting all the world!

I live in Uppsala. Lots of bikes here, though the city is infamous for bike thefts so here people do lock them. Here it's the fastest and easiest way to travel. Usually max 15 minutes from anyplace to anyplace in the city.

I've lived in Sweden all my life, but Malmö is one of the few places I've never been to. If you go back to Sweden sometime there are a couple of other cities that would be worth visiting. I'd recommend Gothenburg, Stockholm and Visby (Visby is on Sweden's largest island. It used to be a trade center in the medieval age.)

I visited my brother in Sweden last fall, and I noticed the same thing- bikes everywhere! He's staying in Uppsala, and I don't know where Malmo is in relation to that, but I guess bikes are found all over the country.
