If you’ve shopped for airfare recently, you probably know that the process isn’t easy and the prices aren’t cheap. With $150+ oil and airlines going out of business left and right, most travelers have been left to fend for themselves.

It’s not a friendly environment out there — many people have stopped flying altogether — but thankfully, it’s still possible to survive the stress, lower the prices, and maximize the fun of travel again.

In this 29-page guide, I document the good and the bad about flying in North America and beyond. Through general tactics, specific examples, and stories of adventures gone wrong (and right), I explain how to purchase airfare at discounted prices regardless of oil prices and airline insanity.

In short, the guide will help you travel more often for less money.

The guide is divided roughly half and half between strategy and tactics. In the strategy sections, I focus on some broad principles that can be applied to all kinds of airfare shopping situations. In the tactics sections, I include a great number of specific examples and “airfare arbitrage” deals you can take advantage of to reduce your costs and increase your mileage.

I will also be providing free updates for life to all buyers.

Format: This is a 29-page ebook that will be delivered to you immediately after purchase. There are no shipping charges and nothing will be sent in the mail.

You can view a 2-page sample here. The sample comes from pages 13-14, and is representative of the practical information included on each page of the guide.

Why I Wrote It: In many ways, it’s getting harder and harder for the average person to travel. Airfare prices are sky-high (no pun intended), and together with the declining oil supply and the bankruptcy of many airlines, there seems to be no end in sight.

I too have been seriously affected by this “perfect storm” of travel difficulties too, but I’m still able to do a lot of travel. My average flight cost is currently $321, including many long-haul flights all over the world. I want to help my readers and anyone else looking to save money on travel.

What You’ll Learn:

Here’s a short list of some of the topics covered in the guide –

  • The Shortcut to Elite Status on Several Major Airlines
  • How To Get Airline Lounge Access
  • How to Hitch a Ride on an Airplane
  • Alternative Routings, Free Stopovers, and Unusual Trip Ideas
  • The Less-than-Free Hawaii Stopover
  • The Contrarian Travel Strategy
  • Surviving Euroshock in Europe
  • Discount Airlines in Europe, Asia, and North America
  • An Introduction to Round-the-World and Regional Travel

That’s a short list… we’ll be adding more later, and did I mention that updates will be free for life? Please note, however, that I have not included a great deal of information on Round-the-World fares and Frequent Flyer Miles, as those are topics that probably require their own complete guides. (I do cover a few things related to these topics– just not comprehensive information.)

Who Should Buy It: The UGDA aims to meet a need for travelers fed up with the high prices and poor customer service of most major airlines. If you’re desperately searching for an alternative to the prices you see on Expedia et al, the guide should help.

The UGDA is predominantly for U.S. and Canadian readers. However, there is a fair amount of international content as well, and many of the strategies outlined are valid worldwide. If there is enough interest from international readers, I’ll write a separate update covering their specific region.

Who Should Not Buy It: If you can’t afford an ebook, you probably can’t afford to fly many places. Airfare can be made more affordable, but unfortunately it can’t usually be made free. Also, if you never travel or just don’t like flying, well, this won’t help you.

How To Purchase: The guide costs $24.97 and is available through PayPal. However, you don’t need to have a PayPal account to pay for it– if you prefer, you can use any major credit card by clicking the PayPal link that says “Don’t have a PayPal account?”. I also accept foreclosed homes and gold jewelery.

[Update: someone actually asked if I was serious about the creative payment methods. No, not really. PayPal is probably easier for everyone involved.]
